Carcillo Suspended For Seven Games

The NHL announced that Daniel Carcillo will be suspended for seven games for this hit on the Edmonton Oilers’ Tom Gilbert on January 2:

According to Brendan Shanahan, the vice-president of Player Safety and Hockey Operations, the onus was on Carcillo to avoid or minimize contact. For the entire explanation of the suspension, click here.

Carcillo, you dumbass. Oh well. It’s not like you were going to return to the ice any time soon, anyway, seeing as how you’re injured and all.

By the way, Carcillo’s suspension doesn’t start until he’s ready to return to the ice. Seeing as how it could be weeks or months until he comes back, depending on the injury, he might not see ice time until next season. Whether or not he’ll still be in a Blackhawks uniform by then remains to be seen.

At least he has the support of his former Flyers homeboy, Mike Richards:

The Wolves Are All-Stars!
Defenseman Kevin Connauton and forward Darren Haydar have been announced to be on the 2012 AHL Western Conference All-Star Team. Congratulations, guys!

Back to your regularly scheduled programming.
The Chicago Wolves lost their past two out of three games, but remain a force to be reckoned with, especially in their home arena. Be scared, AHL. Be very scared.

That’s because, whenever I got to the part about the Carcillo hit, I would start typing something like “Daniel Carcillo was injured on a STUPID HIT OH MY GOD THAT –” which would go on for about two or three sentences made up mostly of foul language and end with me smashing keys until my article looked something like the picture above.

It wasn’t pretty.

So here’s what we know about Daniel Carcillo right now:

In other Blackhawks news, both Marcus Kruger and Steve Montador were placed on injured reserve. Placing Montador on IR opened the door for the Blackhawks to call up Dylan Olsen from the IceHogs. Here’s a video from the Chicago Tribune of Olsen talking about the call-up.

Whenever the Blackhawks need to recall a player from Rockford, the usual names are tossed around: Ben Smith, Brandon Pirri, and Jeremy Morin. This time when the Hawks needed bodies, they passed up on those three and called on forward Andrew Shaw and defenseman Dylan Olsen.
