Paul Gaustad
Oh Goose, I miss you (please come back!!). Gaustad, now a member of the the Nashville Predators, had a pretty decent first round. In Game 1 of the series against the Detroit Red Wings, he scored the first goal of the series, that was also his first ever playoff goal. Goose also continued his face-off prowess, winning over 50% in all but 1 game of the 5 game series.
Danny Briere
It seems like Briere is never going to stop haunting the Sabres. Through out the first round, Danny boy continued to show everyone just how dominant he can be, scoring 5 goals and adding 3 assists. Keep in mind that the 6 game series between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Pittsburgh Penguins was a doozy, but that probably wouldn’t have kept Briere off the score sheet.
Brian Campbell
Another one that got away (because he wanted WAY to much money). Campbell has been an integral part of the Florida Panthers success this season. He, along with Thomas Kopecky and Kris Versteeg provide leadership to a team that was thrown together. Think its a coincidence they were all member of the Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks, not a chance. Either way, Soupy is flourishing after moving down south and is helping lead the Panthers into a possible second round series.
And now onto the bad…
Zack Kassian
Big shocker Mr. Kassian made it onto the bad side of the list. I’m sure when the Vancouver Canucks traded for Kassian in February, they were expecting a younger Milan Lucic, but thats not even close to what they got. They’ve got a player thats lazy, “afraid” to hit and fight (basically his entire job) and isn’t scoring. While his 31 penalty minutes might seem slightly impressive at first glance, he amassed 27 of them in two games. So far in the playoffs, he’s averaging just under 5 minutes a game, has no points and 2 PIM. Impressive…
Marc-Andre Gragnani
Grags may have fared a little better than Kassian upon his move to the west coast, but in the first round, he has been a non-factor. Why has he been a non-factor you ask? Well thats because he hasn’t played at all in the first round. Don’t worry Grags, there’s always next year…
Raffi Torres
Oh, where to even start with this one. First of all, I hardly think he qualifies as an ex-Sabre, seeing as he did NOTHING in his short stay in the Queen City, however, I couldn’t pass this one up. Raffi Torres, you are a big, fat a$$ wipe and are a disgrace to the NHL. You should never be allowed to strap on a pair of skates ever again after your “antics” the last few years. You are everything that is wrong with the National Hockey League and 25 games is probably still not enough to straighten you out. Maybe you need to paralyze someone before you figure out you need to change. Do everyone a favor and hang it up before you kill someone.
