Well, that was painful…
Real Salt Lake traveled to California to take on the LA Galaxy in a heavyweight match up. RSL normally do pretty well at the Stub Hub Center against LA and Chivas USA, and were unbeaten in their last five matches at that stadium, out-scoring those two teams 16-3. I’m pretty sure RSL forgot to show up this time though.
The first half was pretty forgettable. The Galaxy were the better team, but due to the heroics of full backs Tony Beltran and Chris Wingert, the teams went into halftime scoreless. The Galaxy came out like they did in the first half with high pressure, but it was actually RSL who took the lead in the 53rd minute through Joao Plata.
However, it only took LA three minutes to equalize. But then they scored again. And again. And again. And again… Yep. That bad. Robbie Keane nabbed a hat trick and Omar Gonzalez scored his first of the season. It was painful to watch.
If it makes any difference, RSL brought on Robbie Findley who scored a consolation goal in stoppage time so it was only 4-2 instead of 4-1. There’s not a lot more to say about the game except it was embarrassing. RSL will look to bounce back against the Portland Timbers midweek. Hopefully it turns out better.
