KC Royals FanFest is just ten days away. What better way to get pumped up for the upcoming season than attending a two-day event full of everything Royals. For those of you who are making the trip to Bartle Hall at the KC Convention Center on January 31st and/or February 1st, what are you most looking forward to?
It is a first come, first serve basis for the autographs and only 150 people will be allowed for each session. Some players are only listed to attend one of the days. On Friday, Aaron Crow, Wade Davis, James Shields, Fred Patek, Shane Halter, and Jamie Quirk will be there. Saturday will be the only day Mike MacFarlane will be in attendance.
However tons of other players will be in attendance BOTH days. You have young players like Lane Adams, Christian Colon, Johnny Giavotella, Donnie Joseph, and Yordano Ventura. You have new guy Jason Vargas. You have the position players: Billy Butler, Lorenzo Cain, Jarrod Dyson, Alex Gordon, Mike Moustakas, Eric Hosmer, Salvador Perez, and Brett Hayes. The pitchers will also be there: Tim Collins, Louis Coleman, Greg Holland, Everett Teaford, Danny Duffy, Jeremy Guthrie, and Luke Hochevar.
Then there are some of the former players: Jamie Bluma, Willie Aikens, Brian McRae, Jim Eisenreich, Jeff Montgomery, John Wathan, and Shawn Sedlacek to name a few. I can only imagine the HUGE line for Sedlacek (just sarcasm here. He was one of my all-time least favorite Wilmington Blue Rocks).
Or maybe it is the full 2014 promotional reveal? Last week through their Twitter handle, the Royals gave a sneak peak to some of their new promotions. There will be bobbleheads of James Shields (June 28th), Salvador Perez (July 12th), and Alex Gordon (August 10th). There will be a KC Monarchs fedora on their Salute to the Negro Leagues on May 18th (with the hope that fans will dress to the nines on Sunday). There is a camo jersey that will be given out on Memorial Day. They also previewed one of their shirts for T-Shirt Tuesdays (June 24th).
What about the Main Stage events? Season ticket holders enter early and have a chance to play Royals Feud or listen to GM Dayton Moore or manager Ned Yost talk on both days.
On Friday, host Ryan Lefebvre talks to the Royals infielders, manager Ned Yost, and then the pitchers (all will take questions from the fans). On Saturday, it is time for the Royals broadcasters to take the stage. The Royals will then honor their award winners, which will be the only chance fans will have to see Royals great George Brett. The new Royals (right now Jason Vargas is the only one listed to attend), GM Dayton Moore, and the outfielders will talk to fans.
At the end of each day, there will be a giveaway.
Maybe you want to show off your baseball skills? There will be wiffle ball and interactive games, like speed pitch and batting cages.
Want to spend money? Royals Authentics will be at FanFest, selling game-used and autographed memorabilia. There will also be collectibles from your favorite former players. The Royals Majestic Team Store will also be there, selling everything Royals for you to stock up for spring training and/or the 2014 season.
There will also be a Royals Charities 50/50 raffle and a silent auction.
Stadium favorites will also be available for you to indulge in if you get hungry and want to take a break.
Whatever your pleasure, there will be tons to do at Royals FanFest. Let me know what you are most looking forward to and tell me how much fun you have while there.
