The Admirals are returning to Virginia after a road trip that didn’t go their way. After suffering a 4-2 loss in Bridgeport, things only got worse for them when they were handed another 4-2 loss in Binghamton followed by suffering a shutout in Springfield 5-0. The road trip wasn’t a total loss though as they pulled off a shootout victory in Albany against the Devils. Let’s take a look at what went wrong, so we can move forward to Friday and Saturday’s games against the same Springfield that handed them the 5-0 slammer.]
Saturday November 10th @ Binghamton Senators
The Admirals couldn’t dig themselves out of a 4-0 hole they put themselves in Saturday night. It only took the Senators 1 period to find themselves up 3-0 against the Admirals. Corey Cowick score the game’s first goal at 3:11 in the 1st. While on the power-play Andre Petersson would make it 2-0 at 7:26. Late into the period the Senators Jakub Silfverberg made it 3-0 which would become the game winning goal. In the 2nd period the Admirals, in an effort to end the assault on the Admirals’ net, Frederik Andersen [@f_andersen30] was put between the pipes and Igor Bobkov [@BigBobber91] took a seat. 3:15 later the Senators would score again going up 4-0 on a Derek Grant shorthanded goal. Finally- less than 2 minutes later (4:53)- the Admirals got on board when Patrick Maroon [@PatMaroon] scored his fifth goal of the season. Brandon McMillan [@BrandonMcMill] would bring the Admirals within 2 goals of the Senators midway through the 3rd, but it wasn’t enough. The Admirals outshot the Senators by half 24-12 in the final two periods but fall by half 4-2.

Sunday November 11th, 2012 @ Springfield Falcons
This will be a relatively short re-cap seeing as no Admirals scored any goals. Igor Bobkov was in net for 4 of the 5 goals against. Frederik Andersen let in the 5th goal but stopped 18 of 19 shots. It only took Springfield 41 seconds to score the first goal, a power-play goal by Nick Drazenovic. 9 minutes later Drazenovic scored again for the 2-0 lead. Late in the 1st at 18:06 Ryan Craig put the Falcons up 3-0 & 48 seconds later Jonathan Audy-Marchesseault found the net and gave Springfield the 4-0 lead. The score didn’t change until late in the 2nd period. The Falcon’s Cam Atkinson scored their 3rd power-play goal of the game. That would be the final tally of the lop-sided game in Springfield as the Admirals fell 5-love.

Monday November 12th, 2012 @ Albany Devils
The guys got back on track Monday afternoon in Albany against the Devils, but it wasn’t easy! In a back and forth game the Admirals scored first @ 13:27 in the first period. Luca Caputi [@lputi17] was trying to make a pass to a teammate, but the pass got deflected off an Albany defender and got past Albany goaltender Jeff Frazee giving Caputi his first goal as an Admiral. Less than 2 minutes later (15:25) a puck shot by Steve Zalewski deflected off Albany forward Chad Wiseman into the Admirals net for a tie game. In the 2nd period Albany took a 2-1 lead when Tim Sestito scored on a two-on-one breakaway. The Admirals put the game back into a tie only 32 seconds into the 3rd period when Peter Holland [@PeterHolland13] shot a one-timer past Frazee. When the Admirals got a 5-on-3 power play it only took Kyle Palmieri [@KylePalmieri] 3 seconds to score the go ahead goal. 59 seconds later Palmieri scored again on the power play to give the Admirals a 4-2 lead. Matt Anderson got Albany within 1 goal at 12:43 of the 3rd and then with only 3:27 remaining in regulation Albany tied the game up when Adam Larsson sent a slapshot past Frederik Andersen [@f_andersen30].
Norfolk had chances to win the game in overtime when Adam Henrique got called for goaltender interference, however this game would require a shootout to decide the winner. In the shootout the first two rounds went scoreless. Albany’s Joe Whitney and Norfolk’s Peter Holland scored in the third round. The fourth round went scoreless like the first two rounds, and in the fifth round Patrick Maroon [@PatMaroon] scored a backhand goal to give the Admirals their one & only win of the four game road trip.
