Fantasy Football Fridays – Week 14

Hey readers, just thought I would share my extensive fantasy football knowledge before this week’s game take place (except for Steelers/Browns of course).

Today I’ve given you the potential diamonds in the rough (excluded the usual big names in fantasy football realms) and a brief explanation of what I would be looking for if I had a roster spot to fill or something of that nature. Happy footballing.

QBs:

- J. Freeman, TB (playing against a decimated JAX defense)

- C. Ponder, MIN (has ben very impressive as of late)

- A. Smith, SF (protects the football very well)

- Tim Tebow, DEN (figuring out how to consistently generate points)

RBs:

- M. Lynch, SEA (physical back with limited quarterback)

- D. Murray, DAL (pieces to Dallas’ running game are getting healthy)

- S. Greene, NYJ (versatile back)

- W. McGahee, DEN (makes the DEN rushing attack go)

WRs:

- V. Cruz, NYG (has saved my behind twice this season)

- M. Williams, TB (see J. Freeman above)

- S. Johnson, BUF (can get behind a secondary with ease)

- K. Walter, HOU (will have to be Yates’ secret weapon)

DEFs:

- 49ers

- Dolphins

- Broncos

What I’m Looking For:

Football players to be playing football. I did say that this would be brief, didn’t I?

Fantasy Football Friday – Week 12

Well football junkies, we are getting closer and closer to our fantasy league playoffs. I hope that everyone who isn’t in one of my leagues is doing well.

Seeing as how yesterday was Thanksgiving, I’m going to stay in the holiday spirit and have this be a straight to the point, arguably lethargic post.
The main thing that I want to remind fantasy owners of this week is to watch out for injuries. A few key guys have gone down in the past few weeks, so plan accordingly. Below I have listed a few players that you can expect a nice 0.00 from in fantasy points this week.

-Fred Jackson (RB for the Bills)
-Matt Schaub (QB for the Texans)
-Jay Cutler (QB for the Bears)
-Peyton Hillis (RB for the Browns)
-Dallas Clark (TE for the Colts)
-Matt Cassel (QB for the Chiefs)
-Adrian Peterson (RB for the Vikings)
-David Thomas (TE for the Saints)
-Mark Clayton (WR for the Rams)

Please, please, PLEASE adjust your rosters when injuries occur. Not only for making substitutions on offense, but to your starting defenses as well.

Just a quick thought; if you are absolutely struggling at QB, you might want to take a chance on Kyle Orton. The Chiefs signed him off waivers after he was released from Denver. I expect him to start.

(Warning, ejag101 is not, has not, and will not ever claim to be an expert. Prolonged trusting in his fantasy football knowledge could result in multiple facepalms, internal swearing, jumbled thoughts, incoherent speech, and uncontrollable laughter by family and friends if they see your subsequent lineups. Reader’s discretion is advised.)

This is just something that I’ve noticed in one of my league. Chris Johnson and Philip Rivers don’t like me. Nope, no they do not. I try to be respectful of their talents, but I can’t do it any longer.

Maybe you too have had a player or two on your team that has chosen to be insubordinate. I just want to say that you aren’t alone. I feel you virtual, fantasy pain.

To close, I’ll list each position’s top projected players of week 12 according to nfl.com.

QB:
    -Aaron Rodgers – Packers
    -Drew Brees – Saints
    -Matt Ryan – Falcons
    -Ben Roethlisberger – Steelers
    -Matthew Stafford – Lions

RB:
    -Matt Forte – Bears
    -Beanie Wells – Cardinals
    -Michael Bush – Raiders
    -Arian Foster – Texans
    -LeSean McCoy – Eagles

WR:
    -Percy Harvin – Vikings
    -Steve Smith – Panthers
    -Calvin Johnson – Lions
    -Roddy White – Falcons
    -Mike Wallace – Steelers

TE:
    -Jimmy Graham – Saints
    -Kellen Winslow – Buccaneers
    -Tony Gonzalez – Falcons
    -Antonio Gates – Chargers
    -Rob Gronkowski – Patriots

    -who cares
    -all 32 teams

Fantasy Football Fridays – The Top Free Agents That Saved Your Fantasy Football Season

After 10 weeks of Fantasy Football season come & gone you’ve most likely seen it all… injuries, bye weeks, underperforming players and possibly even a suspension. If you’re like me; I’m sure you’ve spent a fair share of your time scoping out the free agents in your league.

Some of your pickups may have been a dud, while others could have replaced your original draft picks as starters. Each week Kristine, the lead reporter for the New York Jets & myself write a Fantasy Football column for Aerys Offsides. This week we were curious which players you picked up as free agents in your fantasy football leagues that have paid off the most? After a few days of Facebook polling, consulting friends & co-workers, and tweeting with our followers we compiled a list of the top free agents you picked up this year.

Make sure to check out Aerys Offsides today for the complete list.

Fantasy Football Fridays – To Replace Or Not To Replace Your Kicker…That Is The Question

In Fantasy Football bye week always complicate things, especially when you sprinkle in a few injured players, you’ve got yourself a recipe for a mid season breakdown in your fantasy league. Most team managers prepared for the bye weeks & injuries by drafting a solid backup option or picking up a breakout player during the season. However, many only plan for when your RBs, WRs or QBs went on a bye week. No one ever plans for their kicker to go on bye week; and if you did you definitely wasted a pick.

I have Josh Scobee in all 4 of my leagues. Mostly because he is my favorite player; also because let’s face it, besides MJD he is the one player that Jacksonville can count on every game! Enough about my love for Scobee.

With the Jaguars on bye week, I’m faced with a difficult in Week 9. Do I pick up a kicker to replace Josh Scobee? Here are a few things you should consider before replacing your kicker.

Who will you be playing in this week’s matchup?

When I was considering replacing him this week I looked at whom I will be matchup against. In one of my leagues I am playing a team who is (1-7). Now this is not just bad luck for the owner, they are just inexperienced when it comes to managing an fantasy team. In this league I will probably just keep Scobee on the roster & not bother adding/dropping to pick someone else up.

However, in another league I am playing a (6-2) team with the owner currently sitting in 2nd place. Did I mention this individual does a lot of smacking talking? So far this week looks like an even matchup with only a projected 10 pt difference. In this league I will definitely be replacing Scobee in hopes it will give me the extra advantage I need to win this game.

Who would you drop in order to add another kicker?

Next I took into consideration which player I would have to replace on my roster in order to add another. In a few leagues I have players on the bench that may have been used during bye weeks, substituted for injured players or have simply been underperforming all season. I used these players to pick up my additional kicker.

However there are leagues where backups are thin & I still have many bye weeks ahead for RBs & WRs. This is where I weigh out the risk of adding a kicker for one week & dropping a player that will help me in the long run. In one league I have a backup QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs & 1 TE.  While usually I wouldn’t draft an extra TE or QB unless it was needed for a bye week; but in this league my starters are hit or miss. With Mark Sanchez & Matt Ryan as my QBs, you’ll understand why sometimes I play the matchup.

Who is there to replace them with?

When looking for a kicker in Fantasy Football it’s sometimes six of one & half dozen of the other. Unless the kicker is an intricate part of the offense, like Scobee in Jacksonville; chances are it will be hard to predict who they will do week to week.

I look at kickers are extra credit points; it’s always nice to get those few extra points, but I don’t count on them to win games. When scoping out a replacement kicker this week I looked at who was the most consistent each week. Sure there were kickers that had explosive weeks, but on the week to week basis they may have been hot & cold.

Having your kicker on a bye week is also a great time to consider whether or not your current kicker is cutting it. Are you sick of having 1 or 2pt games from your current kicker? Maybe there’s a free agent that is being more consistent week to week. Or maybe you would just be better off playing the matchups each week. Even though kickers won’t make or break your season, you don’t need any dead weight on your roster right now.

Bottom Line: If you have to replace a player that could help you in the long run; if there isn’t a quality backup option; or you have a matchup where the kicker won’t make a difference, don’t bother replacing them on a bye week. After all it is just one week.

Twitter Tuesday – T.G.I.T.J.B.W. (Thank God It’s The Jaguars Bye Week)

I don’t know about the rest of you… But I am actually looking forward to a stress free Sunday filled with activities that make me happy instead of heartbroken & angry. After 8 long weeks of football I’m almost starting to wonder why this is my favorite time of the year. Between the my Alma Mater USF losing 3 straight Big East games, the Jaguars only accumlating 2 wins & my mediocre Fantasy Football teams I’m in dire need of a weekend with positive results.

With the Jaguars on a bye week the Twitter world has slowed down with Jaguars tweets. Which should be expected considering the more popular trending topics such as Tim Tebow or Kim Kardashian.

If I see one more hashtag that says #ThingsLongerThanKimsMarriage or another tweet defending Tim Tebow’s critisim I’m going to lose it.

Just because there are no pressing Jaguars news doesn’t mean the Jags Nation isn’t still present on Twitter. Here are the top tweets for this edition of Twitter Tuesday:

@21MPower tweeted his top coaches in the NFL hot seat… Shouldn’t Jack Del Rio be #1 every week?

No wonder the Jags have the 32nd ranked offense in the NFL – Tweet from @AdamBCC:

Looks like things aren’t going the way Jaguar fans had speculated. Even with a big win on MNF, the Jags Nation is still looking for a mid season coaching change. Doesn’t appear that will be happening during the bye week. Sorry @monoxidekyle & @JonLoesche!

11-11-11… Are you prepared for Gabbert day? I wasn’t even aware this was a holiday. Thanks for letting me know @MWReed19!
