Sanya Richards-Ross Wins Gold In London

Sanya Richards-Ross.

Jaguars CB Aaron Ross with his wife Sanya Richards-Ross, who won Gold in the 400m at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Before this weekend you may have never heard of her. Now you’d have to live under a rock to not know her… or maybe you just aren’t watching the Olympics.

On Sunday, Richards-Ross won the gold medal in the 400 meters at the 2012 London Olympic games. You maybe wondering why this is relevant? Well she’s the wife of the Jaguars CB Aaron Ross.

Ross has been granted permission to miss practice in order to support his wife in her trip to London. After Sunday, it was clear not only to the franchise, but the rest of the world that her hard work & dedication has paid off.

If you aren’t familiar with Richards-Ross from her previous accomplishments here a quick run down.

Richards-Ross left Jamaica for the United States at the age of 12; she became a US citizen in 2002.

She made her Olympic debut at the 2004 Athens Olympics as part of the US team that won gold in the 4×400 meter relay. She was not a lucky in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, even though she was favored to win Gold in the 400m, she brought home the bronze.

Richards-Ross didn’t give up after Athens, she trained hard to prepare for London. She went on to set four world-leading times in both the 200 and 400 meters in her first three competitions of the 2012 season. At the 2012 London Olympics on August 5th, 2012, Richards-Ross finished the women’s 400m in 49.55 to win the gold medal for the US.

Sanya Richards began dating Aaron Ross in 2003. Ross proposed to Richards in 2007. By 2010 the two were married in an extravagant wedding that was featured on Platinum Weddings.

The Jaguars showed their support for Richards-Ross by displaying her victory on the video boards at the end of training camp, that was open to the public, on Sunday. The crowd shared their joy for their [hometown] Olympian.

Twitter Thursday: Jaguars Mini Camp Update

With an announcement by Mularkey early in the week that all players attendance is mandatory; Mini-camps are in full swing in Duval.

Well almost everyone took that announcement seriously…

It is no surprise (or at least it shouldn’t be) that the Jaguars star running back, Maurice Jones-Drew has been absent all week.

MJD has made it clear he wants a new contract, the franchise has made it clear that he will not get one.

While the news of MJD’s absences seems to be the highlight of camp, there is still other news of what is actually happening in Duval.
