On Sunday the Jaguars won their first road game of the season versus the winless Colts, 17-3. With a 2-6 team facing a 0-9 team, Sunday’s game played out just like expected. It looked terrible. Here are some of the highlights… & lowlights from the game.
The Good
- Jacksonville’s defense held the Colts to 212 total offensive yards
- The Jags defense also kept the Colts from reaching the end zone. The only points the Colts put on the board was a 42 yard field goal from Adam Vinatieri.
- Curtis Painter finished the game 13 of 19 for 94 yards & 2 interceptions before being replaced by backup QB Dan Orlovsky.
- Maurice Jones Drew had 25 carries for 114 yards & even found the end zone!
The Bad
- The Jaguars 32nd ranked offense only recorded 251 offensive yards.
- With a halftime score of 3-3, it was apparent why the Colts & Jaguars have the two lowest ranked offenses in the NFL.
- During the game the teams totaled 12 punts, 11 of which were in the first 34 minutes.
- The Colts & Jaguars combined for 4 turnovers during the game.
- Fans speculate that the bye week would do Gabbert some good. Well it definitely didn’t hurt him… But I wouldn’t say there was a clear improvement. Gabbert finished 14 of 21 passes for 118 yards with one touchdown & one interception.
The Ugly
- Rashean Mathis left the game during the second quarter after landing on his left foot and his knee gave out. He was carted off of the field to the locker room. Mathis required an MRI & didn’t return. On Monday morning it was announced he had an ACL injury & would not return this season.
- During the Colts first possession, Curtis Painter threw an interception. Before Jags fans even had a chance to celebrate, Blaine Gabbert returned the favor by throwing an interception. Two QBs… two INTs… five plays.
The Jaguars secured their first road win with a final score of 17-3. This is the second AFC South victory for the team, after defeating the Titans in week one. Next week the Jaguars will travel to Cleveland before returning home to host the Houston Texans on November 27th.
