No Walk-Off Heroics For The Sooners On Sunday, Lose to Mizzou
The Sooners took on the Tigers Sunday in the Big XII Championship game, where the Tigers took home the Championship title. Missouri also just auto-qualified to the NCAA tournament, which starts next weekend.
The Sooners gave up four runs in the 1st, but put on their rally-hats for a comeback performance. They tied the game up going into the 7th, 7-7. The Sooners had runners on first and second with two outs in the bottom of the 9th when pinch hitter Chase Simpson singled through the right side of the infield. What looked like was going to be win, turned into Caleb Bushyhead being called out for interference after the ball hit his foot.
Coach Galloway postgame:
I thought it was a terrific game. A 7-2 deficit and we come back, pretty much exhaust our resources in the bullpen, and try to throw a little bit of everything at them. I thought when it was 7-7, it was going to take a special effort out of their dugout to win it and they did it. I guess the ball hit Caleb Bushyhead”s heel. No fault to him, he’s just digging hard trying to get to a bag.
Oklahoma had five players to make the all-tournament team with Jack Mayfield, Evan Mistich, Matt Oberste, Steven Okert, and Dillon Overton, tying the school baseball record set back in 1997. Oklahoma will find out if the post-season will continue on Monday during the College World Series selection show.
