No Walk-Off Heroics For The Sooners On Sunday, Lose to Mizzou

Caleb Bushyhead

The Sooners took on the Tigers Sunday in the Big XII Championship game, where the Tigers took home the Championship title. Missouri also just auto-qualified to the NCAA tournament, which starts next weekend.

The Sooners gave up four runs in the 1st, but put on their rally-hats for a comeback performance. They tied the game up going into the 7th, 7-7. The Sooners had runners on first and second with two outs in the bottom of the 9th when pinch hitter Chase Simpson singled through the right side of the infield. What looked like was going to be win, turned into Caleb Bushyhead being called out for interference after the ball hit his foot.

Coach Galloway postgame:

I thought it was a terrific game. A 7-2 deficit and we come back, pretty much exhaust our resources in the bullpen, and try to throw a little bit of everything at them. I thought when it was 7-7, it was going to take a special effort out of their dugout to win it and they did it. I guess the ball hit Caleb Bushyhead”s heel. No fault to him, he’s just digging hard trying to get to a bag.

Oklahoma had five players to make the all-tournament team with Jack Mayfield, Evan Mistich, Matt Oberste, Steven Okert, and Dillon Overton, tying the school baseball record set back in 1997. Oklahoma will find out if the post-season will continue on Monday during the College World Series selection show.

Walk-Off Win For The Sooners, Again

Oklahoma's Cody Reine

The Sooners are rolling in the Big XII Championship….during the 9th inning. Thursday, the Sooners took on the No. 1 seeded Baylor Bears and won again in the 9th by a walk-off hit from Evan Mistich. This is the fourth win in a row the Sooners have had against the Bears.

The Bears had a 2-0 lead until the 4th, when the Sooners scored off of a double from Hunter Lockwood. Cody Reine led the team with game-tying homer in the 7th. The walk-off hit that won the game was the second of the season for Evan Mistich.

Coach Sunny Galloway on the win:

What I’m thinking of right now is the movie Groundhog Day.  We were in here yesterday talking about the same type of ball game. I am really proud of our club, I’d like to complement our opponent, Baylor, what a terrific season they are having and what a terrific team they have.

After Thursday’s game, the Sooners became the first team in Big XII Championship history to win two games in the bottom of the ninth inning in the same year. They will play the winner of the Kansas State/Baylor game on Saturday at 9:15 AM. The Kansas State/Baylor game is being played Friday with the first pitch scheduled at 3:15.

The Road to Omaha continues…
