Baylor Blows Lead Over Arkansas, Oklahoma And South Carolina Delayed

Sunday marked Day 2 in the Big XII road to Omaha with resulted in a game cancellation and a blown lead. Both Oklahoma and Baylor will now have their fate decided on Monday.

Baylor basically had their ticket punched to Omaha on Sunday afternoon, leading Arkansas right up until the 9th inning. But an error and two hit batters pushed the Razorbacks to a 5-4 win over the Bears to force a game three. The error was a huge mistake for the Bears, allowing the Razorbacks to load the bases, with only one out.

The winner-takes-all game was originally scheduled for a 3:05 PM CST first pitch, but has been moved to 6:05 PM to air on ESPN2.

In Columbia, South Carolina on Sunday, the Sooners and the Gamecocks were scoreless in game 2 in the sixth before lightning and rain forced the game to be postponed until Monday.

Sooner pitcher, Jonathan Gray struck out 9 of 23 batters and allowed only three hits as he finished his start after a lightning delay.  South Carolina starter Colby Holmes was holding Sooners at bay as well, giving up just one hit with two strikeouts.

They will resume play in the sixth inning at 3:00 PM. If the Sooners win, they will play their winner-takes-all game at 6:00 PM.

No Walk-Off Heroics For The Sooners On Sunday, Lose to Mizzou

Caleb Bushyhead

The Sooners took on the Tigers Sunday in the Big XII Championship game, where the Tigers took home the Championship title. Missouri also just auto-qualified to the NCAA tournament, which starts next weekend.

The Sooners gave up four runs in the 1st, but put on their rally-hats for a comeback performance. They tied the game up going into the 7th, 7-7. The Sooners had runners on first and second with two outs in the bottom of the 9th when pinch hitter Chase Simpson singled through the right side of the infield. What looked like was going to be win, turned into Caleb Bushyhead being called out for interference after the ball hit his foot.

Coach Galloway postgame:

I thought it was a terrific game. A 7-2 deficit and we come back, pretty much exhaust our resources in the bullpen, and try to throw a little bit of everything at them. I thought when it was 7-7, it was going to take a special effort out of their dugout to win it and they did it. I guess the ball hit Caleb Bushyhead”s heel. No fault to him, he’s just digging hard trying to get to a bag.

Oklahoma had five players to make the all-tournament team with Jack Mayfield, Evan Mistich, Matt Oberste, Steven Okert, and Dillon Overton, tying the school baseball record set back in 1997. Oklahoma will find out if the post-season will continue on Monday during the College World Series selection show.

Sooners Lose in Extra Innings, Take On Oral Roberts In Game 2

The Sooners took it to extra innings yesterday afternoon in the College World Series Fort Worth Regional against Dallas Baptist.

Continued struggles for the Sooners and not being able to close it out in the ninth ended up pushing Dallas Baptist to a 3-2 win.

Coach Galloway about the loss:

It’s coming to be pretty stressful, One more and you’re done – you go home. So 41 wins and ranked as high as No. 2 in the country at one point… right now, clearly faltering and disappointing our fans and a lot of people.

The Sooners have had issues at bat that have haunted them this season. As of late, they have been in an offensive funk. The Sooner pitching is what could save them this weekend. The relief pitchers from game one had no more than one inning a piece, so their bullpen is ready to go.

Burch Smith is slated to start on the mound for the game this Saturday.

They take on Oral Roberts today at 2:00 PM in Fort Worth, for what will be a hot one. High is supposed to be around 100.

Good Luck boys!

Sooners Headed To Fort Worth For World Series Regionals

Though the Sooners didn’t receive a third straight host position for the College World Series this time around, they still don’t have to stray far from home.

They are headed to Fort Worth, where the number 1 seeded TCU Horned Frogs are hosting. The Sooners beat the Horned Frogs twice in regular season play this year.

The Sooners Regional bracket includes:

TCU

Dallas Baptist

Oral Roberts

The Sooners will kickoff the series on Friday against Dallas Baptist; an independent team who got in with an at-large bid.

Coach Galloway’s thoughts about the Regional:

“It’s teams we are familiar with. We played Oral Roberts, of course, in our regional last year and we play TCU and DBU every year. So it’s a very familiar field for us.”

“It’s about playing your best baseball at this point.”

The Sooners have the talent and the experience to make a run in the Regionals, but have been showing up very inconsistent. Coach Galloway will have the boys ready.

Series play starts this Friday at 2:00.
