It is only fitting that the week that Oklahoma’s Fall football camp opens that bad news hits the team and Monday was one for the books. To kick off the day, the news broke that two JUCO transfer were not deemed eligible to began camp and will not be attending OU in the Fall.
SoonerScoop.com reported that Will Latu of College of the Canyons in California is not academically eligible to qualify. Courtney Gardner also was not academically eligible, failing an English class so was unable to enroll. Gardner will be using his redshirt season and will be enrolling in the Spring.
Dylan Dismuke found out that his Sooner career will be cut short due to a career ending knee injury. Dismuke did work out with the Sooners in the Spring and also played in the Spring Game, but Sooner doctors confirmed that his knee will not be able to take the intensity of Fall workouts and games. He will receive a Medical Hardship, being able to keep his scholarship.
If you think that the bad news is over, you were wrong. Later Monday night, the rumors proved to be true about the four star commit, RB Greg Bryant. Bryant reneged on his commitment to the Sooners and has decided to take his talents to Auburn. With the departure of Bryant (which was one of the best commitments the Sooners had for the 2013 class) it leaves the Sooners with 11 players for the 2013 class.
And just an FYI, Sooner RB Roy Finch apparently injured himself in a pick-up basketball game being played at the Huff. And for all of you doomsdayers, it was his ankle….again. An eyewitness to injury said, “Finch was down for awhile.” Hopefully when the witness means awhile, he means around 30 seconds and it was just a trip up.
Stoops, it’s that time of year where you need to put your players in steel cages and not let them do anything. Just a little over a month until UTEP..
