Baseball season is now upon us, Sooner Nation. And The Sooners are in Malibu, California this weekend to take on a three game series with Pepperdine.
Oklahoma’s road opener is the seventh time in nine years that the Sooners opened away from Norman. OU is ranked No. 14 by the NCBWA, No. 15 by USA Today/Coaches, No. 16 Collegiate Baseball and No. 19 Baseball America, so anyone who is not exactly thrilled while watching Sooner hoops this season, have something to look forward to now.
OU is picked third in the early Big XII polls, behind Texas A&M (who is picked to win the conference) and Texas.
OU’s player to watch is, of course, Caleb Bushyhead.
Senior shortstop Caleb Bushyhead is one of three, three-year starters returning in 2012 (Cody Reine and Max White). Bushyhead missed last year’s opener and the first 14 games of the season with a torn ACL. The 2010 quarterfinalist for the Brooks Wallace Award (nation’s top shortstop) finished last year’s campaign strong after batting .340 with 18 RBI in 25 Big 12 games.
2011 Season Stats: .288, 0 HR, 18 RBI
The three game series starts today and runs through Sunday.
| Game 1 | Friday, Feb. 17, 2 p.m. PT |
| Game 2 | Saturday, Feb. 18, 1 p.m. PT |
| Game 3 | Sunday, Feb. 19, 11 a.m. PT |
You will be able to listen to the game on Sooner Sports Network and KREF 1400 if you’re in the area. You can also watch the webcasts at PepperdineSports.com.
Good luck Sooners, and lets get on the road to Omaha early!
