Puerto Rico scored two runs with two outs in the top of the 8th to break the scoreless tie and held on to beat host Venezuela, 2-0 in the semifinals of the Caribbean Series. Puerto Rico will now face Mexico tonight in the Caribbean Series Final.
Puerto Rico has not won the Caribbean Series since 2000. They beat host Venezuela twice to get to the final. Mexico meanwhile, has won two of the last three, including last year when former KC Royals pitcher Luis Mendoza was named MVP.
Former Royal Irving Falu went 1-for-4 in the win. He led off for Puerto Rico and played second base.
Current Royals spring training invitee Ramon Hernandez caught for Venezuela and went 0-for-3 with a walk. During the series, he went 5-for-17 with a home run and five RBIs. There are no Royals playing in the final.
