Well I’m sad to say that the Nashville Predators are looking at a non-existent post-season if they continue having games like tonight. The Columbus Blue Jackets were just too much to handle for the Predators, taking the win 3-1.
The Predators started out strong in the first period, keeping the Blue Jackets out of the crease and keeping the puck in Nashville’s possession. A fair amount of this push to the Columbus net came from Mike Fisher finally being back in the line-up after dealing with a shoulder injury.
The second period of the game definitely saw an up kick in momentum. Columbus put the first goal of the night on the board at 8:36 of the second, using their four on three power play to the best possible advantage as Wisniewski slapped the puck in.
After Columbus made their second period push on the Nashville net, the Predators took control to even the score at twelve minutes in as the boys in gold and blue swarmed the net. Kevin Klein finally got the goal with a wrister to go on intermission with a tie.
The third period gave Columbus a graceful exit from Bridgestone Arena as the team played there for the last time as a Central Division rival. Next season these two teams will be in completely different conferences, much less division rivals. To go out with a bang new Blue Jacket Gaborik took his first goal with his new team just after four minutes into the period for the 2-1 lead.
It took another eight minutes before Calvert made the game 3-1 as he snapped the puck through three Predators on its way to the back of the net. The game could have been worse though. At the seven minute mark Columbus put home a goal that went under review and quite unexpectedly got the call of “no goal”.
Everyone has to find something to be grateful about, right?
Something else to be grateful about, Nashville’s newest forward Forsberg has one more game to wrap up in Sweden before joining the Predators on the ice next week. Excitement in Smashville!
The Preds have to get through the Chicago Blackhawks before this new coming however. Let’s see if the Preds can break through to a possible playoff spot Saturday at 3pm EST!
