A Weekend of Good Deeds for the Eagles

DeSean Jackson

LeSean McCoy

Two members of the Philadelphia Eagles were using their celebrity to bring attention to important causes this weekend.

DeSean Jackson was in town on Friday hosting a fundraiser for his charitable organization, Foundation 10. The foundation seeks to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer and help raise money to fund research to find a cure. The issue is close to Jackson’s heart as he lost his father to the disease.

Tickets to the gala, held at the Water Works on the banks of the Schuylkill River behind the Philadelphia Museum of Art, were $250 a pop. Several of Jackson’s teammates attended the event, including Mike Vick, Brent Celek and Todd Herremans.

Also on Friday evening, LeSean McCoy hosted a bowling night to raise money for Alzheimer’s research called “Bowl Down ALS.” On Saturday, McCoy was in his hometown of Harrisburg to host a community day for youth in the city.

Several Eagles, including Eldra Buckley, Herremans, Celek and Jamar Chaney came to support the event.

At the event, the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane reports that McShady

“playfully shot hoops with kids, mugged for photos, and signed autograph after autograph at Saturday’s affair.”

The event reminded McCoy of why he loves going home.

“Harrisburg – it’s small, but I’ll tell you what, it’s like a big family. Everybody knows each other, in some way or other they’re related. . . . Even with the bad weather the turnout we’ve had so far shows you the support, the love this city has.”

Eagles Tender Four Restricted Free Agents

It was a busy day at the Eagles organization on Wednesday. The Eagles offered tenders to the following restricted free agents yesterday: middle linebacker Stewart Bradley, running back Eldra Buckley, cornerback Dmitri Patterson and offensive guard Max Jean-Gilles.

Mike Sando of ESPN had a great line to describe the slew of tenders offered around the league yesterday:

It’s possible players could get more value ordering six-piece chicken tenders meals at a drive-thru than they’ll get from the one-year tenders NFL teams are offering potential restricted free agents.

Sando is of course referring to the fact that these moves will have no bearing if and when the current CBA expires at 11:59 pm today.

2 Minutes to Midnight Green notes that

Those not tendered are punter Sav Rocca, linebacker Ernie Sims, linebacker Akeem Jordan, guard Nick Cole, guard Reggie Wells, running back Jerome Harrison, linebacker Omar Gaither, cornerback Ellis Hobbs, and safety Antoine Harris.
