What Oprah wants, Oprah gets. This should never be a question. In a highly publicized competition with Larry King’s replacement Piers Morgan, Winfrey bet $300 that she would land the interview with Vick.
Today, Morgan is out of $300. Do you think you even bother sending what is a mere pittance to one of the wealthiest women on the planet?
Winfrey’s interview with Mike Vick will air on Thursday, February 24. Her production company, Harpo, says to expect the interview to cover all of the hot topics– Vick’s involvement with dog fighting, his time in jail, his current work with the Humane Society and his successful return to the NFL.
Be sure to set your DVRs on the 24th. If you aren’t a regular Oprah watcher (stop frontin), her show appears in Philadelphia at 4 pm on 6 ABC.
Opinions on Vick’s crimes and his true level of remorse have never really left the news, but have been front and center over the past week. Vick’s receipt of a key to the city in Dallas; White Sox pitcher Mark Buerhle’s controversial comments on Vick; and a story about one of the investigators in Vick’s criminal case and his assertion that he has to “wait and see” if Vick is truly repentant have all been top stories the past several days.
The interview takes place at an interesting point in Vick’s life and career. Will it sway some people who are reluctant to forgive Vick? We’ll have to wait and see.
Do you plan to watch Vick’s appearance on Oprah?

In other Mike Vick news, the Eagles are expected to place the franchise tag on the quarterback this week but have so far made no moves. Thursday marked the day that NFL teams could begin placing the franchise tag on players, but currently only the Patriots have done so with left guard Logan Mankins.
Stay tuned to Philly Sports Muse for updates.
UPDATE: This morning the Eagles have reported that they have applied the franchise tag to Vick. Full story coming soon.

It’s interesting to say the least. Regardless of everything,Vick has always been one of those people I’ve wanted to succeed, despite the bad choices he’s made. Is the Oprah interview the best decision at this point in time? I’m not sure. But he’s one of the few professional athletes who’s at least trying to make it right.

Agreed. I really think he’s trying to do right and help others not make the same mistakes he has made. I think a lot of a people will be watching to try to figure out if Vick is genuine and worthy of forgiveness.
