Eagles to Franchise Mike Vick and Trade Kevin Kolb

Vick will remain in his Eagles uniform at least one more year

Reports confirmed Sunday that the Eagles quarterback Mike Vick will be placed with franchise tag, keeping him with the team in 2011. League sources also confirmed that the Eagles will begin listening to trade offers for backup QB Kevin Kolb.

Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Ashley Fox spoke with Vick after he lead the NFC team to a win 55-41 win over the AFC at this year’s Pro Bowl. Fox recounted the conversation via her Twitter account. Asked about the franchise tag, Vick said:

“You know what, it is what it is. It’s great to know they did want to have me around for another year. I’m going to make the most it, and I’m going to do everything that I’m asked to do … to excel and help this team win…That’s the most important thing — have a better year this year coming up than last year.”

Vick and Kolb have maintained throughout the year that they are indeed friends despite Kolb being pulled as a starter by head coach Andy Reid for Vick early in the season.  When Fox informed Vick that Kolb would now being on the trading block, Vick said that he planned to call Kolb and wish him the well:
“Hopefully they do (trade Kolb) and Kevin will find a great place to play. If not then maybe he’ll end up back with us.”
