According to reports, it looks like FIU football head coach, Mario Cristobal has accepted the head coaching job at Rutgers. Cristobal was at Rutgers under Greg Schiano. Schiano left for the NFL to coach the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Sad news if true, but I wish him all the best. I am thankful for having him on board for five years. He sure has turned this program around and it stinks to see him go.
Update (1:58 pm): Nothing is official yet. WSVN 7 and CBS 4 are reporting that Mario is gone.
However, FIU Student Media has a report on their Facebook page, which has been taken down. Looks to me that since it isn’t official news, they are not supposed to say anything yet. Hopefully, the reports are completely false.
If and when anything official comes up, I will let you all know as soon as possible.
Update (4:02 pm): Are you going crazy yet? Because I am. Reports going around on Twitterverse is that Cristobal has told his players he is staying at FIU. Let’s hope this one is true! We shall see.
Update (4:25 pm): Yup, he turned the offer down. Link: NJ.com
