A’s Stay Quiet At Trade Deadline

A’s were rumored to have interest in Chase Headley

The trade deadline has come and gone and for the second season in a row, Billy Beane has kept the team intact.  There were several players linked to the A’s including (SS) Yunel Escobar, (SS) Stephen Drew, (3B) Chase Headley and (RHP) Rafael Betancourt.  But after all is said and done, the A’s are sticking to what they have…for now.

From what we know Beane did try to upgrade the left side of the infield, having almost landed Hanley Ramirez before the Dodgers swooped in and acquired him themselves.  Beane did try to improve the team, but if you believe the rumors, the asking price was just “too” high for what he was looking for.

This was not the only chance the A’s have to upgrade the team, they still have the chance to do so in the next month.  It’s not clear what the front office will do at this point, but there are two things we can be happy about; they did not have a fire sale at the deadline and they did not mortgage the future of the team.
