By signing Pat Neshek to a one-year deal, the A’s have avoided arbitration with the right-handed pitcher. This news comes to no surprise as he was pretty successful in the bullpen.
The A’s acquired Neshek back in August from the Baltimore Orioles for cash considerations. He pitched in 24 games for Oakland and over 19.2 innings he posted a 1.37 ERA with an .137 BABIP, a 4.52 FIP, 2.75 BB/9, 7.32 SO/9 and 1.37 HR/9 rate. Obviously his BABIP & FIP indicate his success may have ran on a bit of luck, but I see no reason why the A’s would not look towards using him in the bullpen for the 2013 season.
The A’s now have six more arbitration eligible players; Daric Barton, Jerry Blevins, George Kottaras, Brandon Moss, Adam Rosales and Seth Smith. Both Daric Barton and Adam Rosales are non-tender candidates.
