As expected, the A’s have activated LHP Brett Anderson from the DL and he will be starting against the Minnesota Twins tomorrow night.  Anderson had Tommy John surgery last July and has not pitched in the majors since June 5 of last year.

Anderson pitched in 13 games last season for the A’s and had a 3-6 record with a 4.00 ERA.  Over 83.1 innings he had a .306 BABIP, a 3.96 FIP and a 6.59 SO/9 rate.  Over 62 games, he has a career 21-23 record with a 3.66 ERA and 3.61 FIP.

He started in 5 rehab games for the Sacramento Rivercats and over 32.1 innings he allowed 12 earned runs, struck out 18 and walked 5.

In order to make room for Anderson, Dan Straily was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento.  Straily pitched in 3 games for the A’s and has a 1-0 record with a 3.18 ERA.  Over 17 innings he has a 5.45 FIP with 12 strikeouts.  I would expect to see Straily back with the team on September 1 when rosters expand.

In order to make room for Anderson on the 40-man catcher Anthony Recker was designated for assignment. Recker played in 13 games for Oakland this season and saw only 37 plate appearances.  During that time he posted a .129/.250/.161 slash line with a .204 wOBA and 24 wRC+.  In 52 games for the Rivercats he has a .265/.358/.435 slash line over 229 plate appearances with 9 HR, a .355 wOBA and 108 wRC+.  It’s hard to say whether or not he will be claimed off of waivers, but I am guessing most likely not.
