No Magic In Vancouver For Chicago

Before this match up between the Chicago Fire and Vanouver Whitecaps FC, the Fire were coming off their first loss in seven matches, dropping a 2-1 home decision to Sporting Kansas City last weekend while the Whitecaps put their current undefeated streak on the line when they play host to the Fire. The Sunday afternoon match was the only meeting between the two clubs this season. In the end, the Whitecaps stretched their undefeated run to five games in their last match with a hard fought 2-0 victory against Seattle Sounders FC.

The Caps are the only remaining undefeated team at home in Major League Soccer. Chicago lost their second in a row as the Fire and magician Mike Magee disappeared on the pitch Sunday night. Vancouver rolled to a 3-1 victory and all the magic belonged to Vancouver’s Camilo Sanvezzo. Camilo scored two goals to take the lead for The Golden Boot Award. Chicago’s Magic Mike had been leading the MLS in goals scored prior to Sunday’s game. The Whitecaps put the shutdown on Magee and the Fire and the Whitecaps both secured a playoff spot with today’s victory.

The first half was a scoreless draw and the Fire looked like a team that came to battle, but at the 66th minute into the second half,  the Brazilian Camilo put Vancouver on the board first. Then 5 minutes later at the 71st minute, Camilo put another one into the back of the net to give Vancouver a 2-0 lead.

It was all the Whitecaps needed to secure three points and the victory. K. Manneh scored another goal for the Whitecaps at the 84th minute to put the match away for good.  A meaningless goal came at the 91st minute of stoppage time  for the Fire from P. Nyarko. When the final whistle blew, it would be Vancouver that claimed the victory with 3-1 scoreline.
