Six In A Row, Baby!

This greeted me this morning when I went to the Stanford website to prepare my recap for you all. I squealed with happiness over the sheer adorableness of it.

On a night when Jim Harbaugh was at the game watching us, we basically decided to haul ass, winning 11-4.

The stars of the game were the brothers Diekroeger – Kenny and Danny each had two RBIs in the contest. Only Stephen Piscotty had more in the game with three of his own on two hits, but the fact that both siblings were playing sort of overshadowed that. Everyone loves when siblings play together, right?

(Ironically, this makes me miss my younger brother. I’ll see him in a couple of weeks, but still.)

We’re off to Oregon for a three game set this weekend, so wish us luck. Hopefully, we’ll play better against their baseball team than against their football team, which is extremely good.  Fingers crossed, fellow smart people!

(If you want to buy that picture of Kenny and Danny, it’s on sale here.)

Stanford Sweeps Weekend Series With Washington, Beats Stockton For Fifth Consecutive Win

Lots of good news on this lovely Tuesday afternoon.

Here’s Brian Ragira on the win on Sunday:

Ragira was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week this week, so we’re especially proud of him. I think you should be, too.

Stanford’s hosting UC Davis tonight at Sunken before going up to the University of Oregon to play the Ducks this weekend. Eight games in ten days, people. We’re hanging in there. If you’re in California or Oregon, you might get to watch the games: Friday night’s game will be tape delayed, but it’ll be on Fox Sports Net on Saturday. Sunday’s game will be live on Comcast SportsNet Northwest, CSN Bay Area and Comcast Sports Southeast. Enjoy!

Oh, Look, Stanford Won A Baseball Game Last Night, Too

Although it was overshadowed by a couple of other awesome wins (softball had a walk-off, and the women’s basketball team seniors are now officially undefeated on their home court), the baseball team had a nice, solid win last night, too.

It was really a low-scoring affair, with Stanford winning it 3-2. They picked up their first run in the first when sophomore wunderkind Kenny Diekroeger grounded out, bringing Jake Stewart home from third. Two more runs were tacked on in the 4th on a Tyler Gaffney home run. One inning later, Daniel Cepin drove the two UC Davis runs in, but that was pretty much the extent of the enemy’s scoring for the night.

And you can credit that to Cardinal pitching. Mark Appel started the game and went two scoreless, and then Jordan Pries picked up where Appel left off, throwing through the 7th inning. Both UC Davis runs were on Pries’ watch. Chris Reed pitched the 8th and 9th, and he was virtually spotless, striking out 3 of the 7 batters he faced and stranding some baserunners.

The nerdy kids with the tree are back in action against Santa Clara today at home. You can catch ‘em at 1 pm PST, which means Steph will have to check in with them at 4 pm EST.

Today There Is Cardinal Baseball: REJOICE!

There was going to be baseball this past weekend, too, but that kind of got rained out. Totally not cool.

Now, there’s actually some semi-important news about this UC Davis game, and that’s not just that it’s actually happening. The game’s being moved from UC Davis to Stanford, so they’ll be playing at Sunken tonight. We thought you’d like a heads-up, especially given that admission is free and all that. It’ll start up at 6 pm PST, which means poor Steph on the east coast won’t get to see it start until 9. At least she won’t be in class.

As soon as we’ve got lineups, you can expect them here!
