Stuff That Happened For Stanford Whilst I Was Away

Okay, here’s your Stanford news roundup, since Steph has been a very busy girl as of late because she’s almost done with her undergraduate studies (nooooo, the real world is scary!):

Now we’re going to be playing ASU this weekend, so I will probably scream things at Dustin Pedroia and Ike Davis about how they will behold our victory. They’d better behold our victory. Of course, they’re doing well in conference games, with the exception of being swept by Oregon State. Let’s all go and mock-hate on Ellsbury now. Argh, Jacoby.

For something neat and Stanford-related, by the by, remember those folks who were doing the Legend of Jed Lowrie site and raising money for the Jimmy Fund? We’ve teamed up! I’ll be doing some limited-edition prints for them to sell (which, of course, will be Jedtastic) and the money will go to helping the Red Sox’s favorite charity. Check it out here and feel free to commission me! I’m especially fond of drawing my Stanford boys, as you know.

And We Won This Game…How?

16-14.

That’s your final.

I don’t even know.

Basically, I think this one might be easier to recap in bullet form, so let’s try that. Because…it kind of got convoluted near the end, so it’s better to do this step by step.

  • 1st inning: Stanford goes ahead 3-0.
  • 2nd inning: Stanford adds two more runs and goes ahead 5-0.
  • 4th inning: Saint Mary’s scores two runs. Stanford answers them both. Score is 7-2.
  • 5th inning: Stanford adds two more runs. 9-2.
  • 6th inning: Stanford tacks on one more run. 10-2. Seems like a runaway at this point.
  • 7th inning: Saint Mary’s scores seven runs, sending 12 batters to the plate. Stanford yet again manages to answer almost all of them, scoring six runs. 16-9.
  • 9th inning: Four errors by Stanford lead to five more runs for Saint Mary’s, but Scott Snodgress comes in and shuts the door. 16-14.

So, yeah. We won, but we didn’t look very good doing it. So I’m not sure how I feel about this one right now.

We’re playing again this weekend on the road at Washington State. Now we just have to hope that goes a little better than this.
