When the NFL announced its new bag policy, I was just waiting for the NFL to offer officially-licensed merchandise, you know, as a service to the fans.
The new policy restricts what bags are allowed in NFL stadiums, but basically bags are restricted to clear bags no bigger than 12″x6″x12″, gallon-sized Ziploc baggies, and wristlets no larger than 4.5″x6″.
Well, what do you know…The NFL Shop has a page dedicated to providing fans with “all clear” options. There are messenger bags, beach totes, bags that look like reusable shopping bags, totes, and drawstring backpacks. Hey…no one can claim that the league didn’t give fans options for carrying their tampons, lipstick, and Chardonnay money into games. Nor could anyone claim that these bags are fashion forward.
All the styles are not available for all teams. No messenger bag for Saints fans at this time. Sad.
The bags cost $9.95-$19.95. They are made out of PVC fabric. There’s no reviews in the NFL shop about these bags yet. I wonder about how long these bags will actually last. In my experience, this type of plastic fabric doesn’t hold its stitches long term. The PVC fabric could separate from the fabric lining, so the bag will have holes. And then it’s just trash.
If you can bring yourself to downsize the necessary products for game time at the stadium, I’d opt for a wristlet instead.
