It’s always nice to read stories that inspire people during this time of the year. Instead of reading about how people are in the grocery store fighting over the last ham, let’s read about how a teenager was given a shot to do something no one thought he’d ever be able to do.

Though it’s not college related, it’s still an inspirational story that should put a smile on your face. Will Fahey, a teenager who like any typical guy that age, is a football super fan. Though, Fahey’s situation is a little different: he has cerebral palsy.

He attends a high school which specialized in disabilities but they do not have a football team, so Fahey has been supporting another local team and has been one of their most loyal fans for over six years. The Wellesley Raiders coaching staff started noticing that Fahey had attended almost every single game and decided to let him come out on the field to practice with the team.

Though in a wheelchair because of the strain of walking, Fahey would get up and just run short distances while on the practice field with the Raiders. They helped him see one of his life-long dreams finally come true and that was to be with a football team on the field. The Wellesley Raiders then one-upped just letting him practice: in the final game of the season, the coaches, team and fans all wanted Fahey to suit up. He got to take the first snap of the game in full uniform.

It’s easy for those of us to just look past the simple things in life, that some of us do on a day-to-day basis. For Fahey, he had a dream come true by others realizing that some people can’t do it on their own. Kudos to the Raiders.
