For many of us, loyalties to a team starts young. This is especially true when it involves your favorite college team. We often form these loyalties around a few different factors. It could be as simple as what state we live in, the region within that state or where our parents went to school. Even as it becomes more common to move around and away from your roots, a bond with a university is often handed down from generation to generation.
Sure, households are sometimes divided when one chooses to attend a rival institution, and a kid may rebel and choose a team just to anger their parents (like, for example, Wolverine fans in Central Ohio who have never stepped foot in the state of Michigan) but, by and large, households generally stand firmly next to lifetime loyalties to a school.
This is why the story of Emma, a kindergartner from Kansas, should serve as an inspiring tale to us all.
