People in the US were treated to some morning football as Notre Dame defeated Navy, 50-10, in Dublin, Ireland for the Emerald Isle Classic.

Notre Dame attacked the Navy defense via the running game as Theo Riddick and George Atkinson, III combined to score four touchdowns.

The game wasn’t all that close as Notre Dame jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter. Riddick and Atkinson both scored during that time.

Riddick finished as Notre Dame’s leading rusher, carrying the ball 19 times for 109 yards. Atkinson was a yard shy of the 100-yard rushing mark

Everett Golson made his first start at quarterback for Notre Dame. He finished his day early as Golson was 12-for-18 for 144 yards with a touchdown and interception. Golson’s touchdown pass came in the second quarter when he completed a 5-yard pass to tight end Tyler Eifert.

The Navy offense had a rough day, turning the ball over four times (three fumbles, one interception). One fumble was returned for a touchdown by Stephon Tuitt for 77 yards.

Navy Quarterback Trey Miller completed 14-of-19 for 197 yards. He completed a touchdown pass to Shawn Lynch.

It’s the second straight win for Notre Dame over Navy.

The game was played at Aviva Stadium, which was built in 2010. About 35,000 American fans were reported in attendance, according to the Associated Press.

This is the first time both teams have played in Ireland since 1996.

Notre Dame will be home next Saturday playing Purdue at home (and not in the morning). Navy’s next game will be Sept. 15 against Penn State.
