Gene Chizik’s reaction to Notre Dame winning. Okay, it was from the Alabama game! (screencap via CBS Sports)
Notre Dame 22, USC 13- It looks like Notre Dame will be going to the BCS title game. USC had opportunities as the game was close, but they failed to capitalize. This much is known though, Notre Dame is undefeated and we now have to hear about how great Notre Dame is and the history and all that other stuff on ESPN for the next six weeks. I hope you’re happy, America!
Alabama 49, Auburn 0- It wasn’t even close as the Alabama Crimson Tide clinched the SEC West Division with their blowout win against Auburn. The difference came in the second quarter when the Tide scored 28 points. AJ McCarron had four touchdown passes, while Eddie Lacy rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns.
Georgia 42, Georgia Tech 10- Georgia knows their opponent for next week’s SEC championship game will be Alabama. They had a pretty easy season finale as the Bulldogs held Georgia Tech to three points in the first three quarters. Georgia Tech will be playing next week in the ACC Championship game against Florida State. The Yellow Jackets own the Coastal division tiebreaker over North Carolina.
Connecticut 23, Louisville 20 and Pittsburgh 27, Rutgers 6- Both Louisville and Rutgers will face off next week to determine who will get the Big East BCS automatic qualifier berth. Louisville lost in overtime to Connecticut, while Rutgers was knocked off by Pittsburgh. Rutgers is already guaranteed a share of the Big East title, but should Louisville win next Thursday, they would earn the BCS berth.
Oregon 48, Oregon State 24- The Civil War was close early, but was over before you knew it. The Ducks were able to get back on track, following their upset loss to Stanford last week. Kenjon Barner had 221 yards rushing and two touchdowns in the win over the Beavers. Because of Stanford’s win over UCLA, the Ducks won’t participate in the Pac 12 title game next week. Oregon is still in line for a BCS bowl berth and they still have an outside shot at the national title game. It all depends on the BCS rankings, which will be released Sunday.
Florida 37, Florida State 26- A 24-point fourth quarter for the Gators made the difference in the game. Mike Gillislee had 140 yards and two touchdowns in the Gators win. While they won’t be part of the SEC title game, there’s also still a shot for Florida to get in the National title game. Again, it all depends on the BCS rankings. Florida State meanwhile will try to not screw up against Georgia Tech next week in the ACC title game.
Michigan State 26, Minnesota 10- The Spartans are now bowl eligible with their win over Minnesota. The bigger story however is Minnesota Head Coach Jerry Kill. Kill had a seizure at halftime and missed the second half of Minnesota’s game. He didn’t need to go to the hospital and instead went home and is resting.
