The B1G Tournament tips off Thursday, March 8th at 11:30 AM ET when #8 seed Iowa takes on #9 seed Illinois. Here is a look at the match-ups in bracket form:
The B1G is deep, very deep. There is a good possibility of a deep run by a lower seed to muck up Selection Sunday, much like what happened on the women’s side this year. The regular season ended in a 3-way tie for the championship between OSU, MSU and Michigan thanks to last second heroics by Ohio State’s William Buford. The teams being touted as favorites by various pundits are Ohio State and Michigan State, but don’t count out the Wolverines. Michigan may very well see the B1G tourney as a way to make a statement prior to the Big Dance as they seem to be the regular season champs most often overlooked in the National discussion.
The four teams earning a day one bye are MSU, Michigan, OSU and Wisconsin. Any four of those teams has a legitimate shot at a championship. Indiana with the five seed could also be a sleeper in Indianapolis as renewed excitement over the program could result in a home-like atmosphere for the Hoosiers.
