The night was full of stars. The ones that burned the brightest? Max Scherzer and Delmon Young’s mustache. Okay maybe it was just Delmon Young but I am now convinced more than ever that his mustache has powers and if he shaves that thing any time soon the Tigers could be in some serious trouble. So as much as I hate it don’t get rid of it Delmon. We need the power it seems to possess.
Another WIN. The Tigers managed to beat the White Sox again last night and not by a run or two. With a final score of 5-1 and with Tiger bats making all kind of noise it is looking like the team has a potential to do I dare say SWEEP?! And with a win today they are one victory short of pulling into a first place tie for the division lead.
In efforts to not curse today’s game let’s just talk about last nights. Two words. Max Scherzer. What an ALL-STAR. Is it to bold to say that he is the best pitcher the Tigers have this year? Some of you will probably tell me that is I am NUTS, but lets be honest this hasn’t been JV’s year and Scherzer has stepped up and made sure when he comes out to pitch he gives it 120%. He leads the American League with 204 strikeouts and reached the 200-strikeout mark for the first time in his career during the game Saturday night.
He had the bats to back him too last night. With just about everyone but Avila hitting the Tigers finished the game with three triples, the first time they have had three in a game since Aug. 30, 2008. Jackson tripled in the eighth inning to give the Tigers (Boesch, Young) their third of the game. Cabrera singled to drive home Jackson and make it 5-0. Even newbie Avisail Garcia managed to get a hit and make a splash in his debut last night.
Then we have Young and that ridiculous mustache of his. The powers that it possess have helped him to be a hitting machine in this series. He tripled and HOMERED for the team last night and we all know that the triple should have been a home run but we will just have to let that one go.
I am shocked, well not really, but kind of, that the Tigers have played this way in this series. I find myself shaking my head at this team every year as they seem to do exactly this. The play terrible and suck it up for a majority of the season, mixed with a few great moments and games and then when they need to most just when it looks like the season is over and fans have lost all hope they make an incredible turn and become this team who suddenly can play ball.
Today’s game is prime time and will be aired on ESPN. There is a lot of pressure on that mustache and lets all hope that JV didn’t go out with any women last night and that he isn’t drunk or high when he takes the mound today. (His last start I had my little three year old nephew walking around the house saying “He is drunk Lyns, he is drunk.” Oh the sweet joys of little things like that.
Let’s go Tigers. Beat the Sox.
