NASCAR Sprint Cup: How Reuti!

And then THIS happened after Reutimann drew the caution...

How do you lead well over 400 of a possible 515 laps and NOT win the race?

Let’s ask David Reutimann.

Hendrick Motorsports embarrassed the competition in Martinsville by their total dominance of the Goody’s Fast Relief 500.  Jeff Gordon led the most laps with 328, Jimmie Johnson led around 105 laps, and even Dale Earnhardt, Jr led a handful of laps.  At one point in the race, those three Hendrick cars were running 1-2-3 and one of them was poised to earn Rick Hendrick’s 200th win.

It was not to be.

NASCAR Announces No More Double Secret Probation

It's Over, Brian.

Dean Wormer will no longer influence NASCAR chairman Brian France.

NASCAR has had a recent history of secretly fining drivers for speaking their mind.  Ryan Newman was fined in 2009 for critical statements involving the “boring” racing at Talledega and the new COT car.  Denny Hamlin was secretly fined for speaking out on Twitter against seemingly “fixed” late race caution flags.  Brad Keselowski is the most recent recipient of a secret fine.  He was fined in 2011 for calling NASCAR’s impeding 2012 move to fuel injection a “disaster.”

You Say It’s Your Birthday: Happy Birthday Ryan Newman & Kevin Harvick!

Why yes, these two NASCAR tough guys are both capable of smiling. It's rare, but does happen.

We have two HUGE birthdays to celebrate today for two awesome drivers in NASCAR.  With that being said I am proud to introduce my fellow Sagittarius birthday boys Ryan Newman and Kevin Harvick!

Ryan Newman was born on December 8, 1977 and celebrates his 34th birthday today.  Kevin Harvick was born on Deccember 8, 1975 and celebrates his 36th birthday today!

Both drivers made the 2011 Chase for the Sprint Cup, one happens to be a Hoosier and drive for my favorite driver in all the world and the other driver is known as “Happy” and is one of the best Twitter feeds one can subscribe to, seriously.

So boys, Happy Birthday to you both, best wishes for 2012 and may you not feel old today as I will one week from today.  Cheers!

Busbee Confirms Newman & Stewart Are Happily Married

They are a lovely couple, aren't they? It's why they're winners.

It’s Championship Week in Las Vegas as we get set to kick of the awards ceremony on Friday night but before the official pageantry begins, NASCAR is having a little fun with its Chase drivers.

As reported by Yahoo’s Jay Busbee in the awesomely insane blog, From The Marbles, the Chase drivers paired up in couples to participate in NASCAR’s version of the “Newlywed Game” that was actually hosted by Bob Eubanks and let’s just say it wasn’t as boring as many would typically think when it comes to game shows.

And guess who won?  Yep, none other than Tony Stewart and Ryan Newman.  I always thought they were too happy together anyways.

How’d the rest of the Chase drivers pair up and how did they fare in yesterday’s lovefest?  Jay’s story is way too awesome not to share with our AerysSports community so please, enjoy his brilliance and just plain silliness in sports journalism.  It’ll rock your face off, I promise.

88 Days And Counting: A NASCAR Christmas Wishlist

Dear Santa: I have a few things on my NASCAR wishlist I'd like to see you take care of -- like pronto.

For the offical record it does not include our current 2011 Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart tied up and wrapped in a big red bow underneath my Christmas tree.  However, that would be very nice in case anybody is thinking of me, won’t lie.

Good morning, everybody.  Since we’re officially dead in the middle of racing withdrawl season, I’m taking an opportunity to address issues, concernes, grievances and things I’d like to see either changed or improved for the upcoming 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup series.

This can be anything from track and safety conditions to driver rides and penalty enforcement changes as well.

So take a ride with me and we’ll see if Santa is nice enough to check my list twice because I’ve been a good girl this year so I deserve at least something, right?

NSCS Talladega: NASCAR, You Have Some Work To Do

Clint Bowyer picks up a win for Richard Childress Motorsports. Too bad he'll be driving for Michael Waltrip next season.

NASCAR!  You need to figure out how to get the racing back at the plate tracks.  This two-car draft racing style is absolutely ridiculous.  I feel like I’m watching some weird NASCAR/2-man bobsled hybrid.  Let me point out the main flaw of the 2-car draft.  This should be so painfully obvious to the powers that be….

THE FIELD IS 43 DRIVERS!

This means that someone is left without a dance partner from the beginning of the race.  That poor driver, Denny Hamlin in today’s fiasco, is left running alone until the right amount of other cars wreck or start and park to leave them a partner.  Denny, a Chase contender, was a lap down before a wreck freed up a car to run with him.

This isn’t racing.  Daytona and Talladega hasn’t been racing in quite a while.  You have top tier drivers spending their day logging laps at the back of the pack because they are terrified to get caught up in someone else’s mess.  They lie in wait until about 25 laps left and decide it is go-time.  That is when the racing begins and we two by two they push to the front.

NSCS Richmond Preview: One Last Chance to Make the Chase

What's the running theme for this weekend's Sprint Cup race at Richmond? You got it. Complete and utter chaos.

This is it, Race Fans.  The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to Richmond International Raceway for the final race to qualify for the Chase for the Sprint Cup.

Eight drivers have clinched their spot in the Chase- Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth, Jeff Gordon, Kevin Harvick, Kurt Busch, and Ryan Newman.

Brad Keselowski has achieved one of the two Wild Card spots into the chase with his 3 wins.  Three spots in the Chase remain and 14 drivers are still mathematically eligible to qualify.

Hold on to your hats, fans.  This race is gonna be a good one.

NASCAR Sprint Cup: Teammates Newman & Stewart dominate New Hampshire for SHR 1-2 finish

Stewart-Haas teammates Ryan Newman and Tony Stewart swept the field at New Hampshire this weekend finishing 1-2 in Sunday's race. (photo courtesy of www.nascar.com)

Bad news:  Our Kyle Busch points leader picture is coming down this weekend.  Darn it.  I know our readers are all disappointed.  Too bad.  Good news:  Ryan Newman and Tony Stewart finished first and second in today’s Lenox Industrial Tools 301 at Loudon (this is a dream come true for this HUMONGOUS Stewart-Haas fan).  Great news:  Today was TNT’s last broadcast of the season.  Best news:  I’m happy to report there were no major traffic dilemmas reported before or after the race.

Overall, today was a great day to be a NASCAR fan.  Ryan Newman further solidified himself into the Chase in September by winning today’s race and it was the anniversary of his grandfather’s death.  Ryan’s grandfather was instrumental in why he became involved in racing at a very young age; believe me I know because Ryan grew up less than two hours from where I live.

We knew we were capable of it…We were so close so many times this year. (Yahoo! Sports)

For inquiring minds, Ryan actually choked up in Victory Lane.  Yes, the ice man was emotional.

NASCAR Baby Births: Must be in the Water

Greg and Nicole Biffle are the most recent couple to give birth to NASCAR babies blooming all around the track in the last year. (photo courtesy of www.bleacherreport.com)

I’m proud to say (and more so admit) Greg and Nicole Biffle have inspired me to enlighten NASCAR fans about the most recent “baby boom” in NASCAR racing, namely the Sprint Cup series with the birth of their first child yesterday.

Fans who have tuned into the races on a regular basis the last year have noticed an incredible amount of baby bumps in the pits during opening ceremonies.  NASCAR is a family and strives very hard to involve their fans in everything that goes on in the sport.  When drivers get married and start families away from the normal, everyday racing activities the fans feel like they’re a part of an extended family.

The closeness in NASCAR also rings true when drivers and their families fall on hard times as well.  Ask Trevor Bayne how many well-wishes he got when he found out he was sick this year almost immediately after the Daytona 500.  Even more so, ask any NASCAR fan how much February 18, 2001 impacted their lives and how strongly the entire racing community pulled together on the darkest day in our sport’s history.

So Lipstick and Lugnuts is taking this opportunity to wish all the recent and brand new NASCAR “Mommies and Daddies” out there best wishes.  Congratulations!
