Sprint Cup: No Patience? No Problem Says Lord Kes

Kes waived the checkers at Talladega on Sunday with a little help from his friend Kyle Busch (photo credit: NASCAR)

Okay so drivers have heard and been told a bazillion times to “be patient” on the track.

Yeah, we’ve all heard it on radio communications during races and have even probably preached audibly to our drivers during races as well.

I know I have.  I’m the queen of talking to the television during racing season.

Matt Kenseth looked poised to win the Aaron’s 499 with about five laps to go and clearly had one of the strongest cars (along with teammate Greg Biffle) all day long.

Until…the two K’s came rolling along on the green-white-checkered finish.  I’m talking about Keselowski and Kyle.

NASCAR Sprint Cup: Texas Snoozefest and Angry PR Guy

I will never understand it, Morgann! NEVER!

What a difference a day makes! I had hoped that the crew at Texas Motor Speedway had fixed the turn 3 lights.  I did not want their malfunction to change the outcome of the Sprint Cup Samsung Mobile 500 as they had the Nationwide race.

After 241 consecutive green flag laps to end the race, I would have shot those lights out with a BB gun myself.

Greg Biffle managed to stay awake to take the checkers and get his first win of 2012.  This is his first win since October 2010, a total of 49 races.  Jimmie Johnson, Mark Martin, Jeff Gordon, and Matt Kenseth rounded out the top 5.

Even with all four drivers taking him top 10 finishes, Rick Hendrick still has to wait for his 200th win.  It sure looked like Jimmie had that all wrapped up again.

I cannot stress how much I wished I would have been watching playoff hockey instead of this Texas race.  This type of racing made the March race at Bristol look like bumper cars at the fair.  So, where are all those people that complained so heavily that they wanted real racing?  Bristol is being changed, but we are subjected to not one, but TWO races of this caliber at Texas Motor Speedway?

Money talks, right, Eddie Gossage?  How long until fans stop ponying up the cash for infield Sumo wrestlers and fuel mileage races?

Garage Gossip: Pre-Daytona 500 Fashionably Late Edition

I did not stop at the Columbus, IN Dairy Queen this weekend but I am here today to bring you NASCAR's latest.

For those of you familiar with our now-famous (we hope) website here, one would observe that Tuesdays are reserved for our news days.

Well, today is Wednesday and it’s news day because I just got back into town from Indianapolis.

I wasn’t visiting Tony Stewart although I did roll by Columbus, IN on Monday just for the official record for like the millionth time in hopes of bumping into him.  Sigh.  Fail yet again.

It’s a special week because NASCAR season officially opens this weekend so we’re changing the gears up just a little bit but then back to our normal programming next week.

News items of interest this week?  Jeremy Mayfield’s (aka Methfield) hallucinating (literally), NASCAR defended it’s stance on concussions, and Roush-Fenway is on the pole for the Daytona 500 so let’s get started.

You Know It’s The Offseason When…

Greg and Nicole Biffle with the family minus baby Emma at the time. (photo credit: Greg Biffle Foundation)

Your favorite NASCAR drivers are scheduled to make an appearance on “Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan” and this is not a test of the emergency broadcast system.  This is real.

This announcement was so huge that NASCAR had to make an official press release about it.  Again, not joking.

I will be tuning in because I’m a dog lover myself.  I have two of them in our family and they’re treated better than I am.

Again, this is a very serious non-joking article.

For real though, Greg Biffle and Kevin Harvick are the two drivers scheduled to make the appearance on or around February 17-18th at Daytona Beach, Florida.

You Say It’s Your Birthday: Happy Birthday, Greg Biffle!

Like I said, humongo fan of the baby blue bedroom eyes. Behold the Biff. (photo credit: Motor Racing Network)

It’s Friday, almost Christmas time and today we celebrate the birthday of one of my all-time favorite drivers, Greg Biffle!

The Biff was born back on this day in 1969 which means he turns forty-two today!  I’m not making apologies for him because I think he looks amazing and always will!

But Morgann what is this crazy, semi-delusional infatuation you have with Greg Biffle?  Have you ever seen the man in person?  Let’s just say I’m a huge fan of bedroomy blue eyes.  Ahem.

Greg drives for Roush-Fenway Racing and pilots the No. 16 3M Ford Fusion in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup series.

The Biff finished fourteenth in this year’s Sprint Cup standings with eight top tens, two top fives and one pole award.

Greg had a pretty great 2011 as he welcomed his brand new baby girl, Emma Elizabeth into the world on July 6th so let’s hope 2012 can be even better yet!  Happy Birthday, Greg!

NSCS Irwin Tools Night Race: Kes and the Amazing Cankle

Yeah, it was a pretty evening for the most part at tonight's Sprint Cup Irwin Tools Night Race. (photo credit: Tom Pennington)

So do any of you remember a driver by the name of Brad Keselowski that we mentioned a few weeks ago about how awesome he was by winning a NASCAR race on a broken ankle?  Yeah, guess what:  he did it AGAIN tonight on the world’s loudest half-mile oval.

That’s right, kids.  Brad Keselowski, once again, defied all logic and walked (or should I say limped) away with the checkers tonight at Bristol Motor Speedway in the Irwin Tools Night Race.

On a broken ankle, yet again, Brad led 89 of 500 laps and notched his third win of the 2011 season.

Believe it or not for a hot, summer night Bristol was rather cool.  Tempers really didn’t flare and everybody seemed to walk away happy but it was Brad and his amazing cankle that took center stage.

But this evening wouldn’t be complete without some “oopies” and “duhs” that we must address in the form of a semi-snarky rant.  Join me.

If your favorite NASCAR driver was a Beatles song it’d be…

What Beatles song fits your favorite NASCAR driver? I picked a few randoms and the results are shockingly brilliant. Keep reading...

I have two obsessions in my life:  NASCAR and the Beatles.  I love one just as much as the other and I can’t pick a favorite.  I know more about the Beatles and NASCAR than I’d like to admit to the point it could possibly get me incarcerated for a long period of time.

The Beatles and NASCAR are a weird combination kind of like fries and frosties or pickles and peanut butter but then again who cares, right?

So I’m going to put a twist on NASCAR and the Beatles, throw the two into a blender and see what comes out.  I’ve got my i-pod on Beatles shuffle and I’m going to go down the list of some of our favorite drivers.

This could be fun or it could be a disaster.  Are you with me?  Good.  Throw on your earbuds and let’s rock this out.

Garage Gossip: The Tuesday Really Bad Hangover Edition

Yeah, after Sunday and Monday's racing drama this is how I feel. Welcome to dead news Tuesday.

Okay, so it’s literally dead news Tuesday in IndyCar and NASCAR today.  That’s awesome considering we like to cover the news on Tuesdays.  Great.

So think of today as the day when the entire racing world is recovering from a really bad hangover after a weekend of partying our faces off.  Oh wait, we already do that.  Never mind.  I think race fans deserve a day of nothingness after Sunday’s IndyCar drama and yesterday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup drama.

Guess what:  I’m mixing it up a little bit today (mainly because I can and nobody can stop me) and so we’re going to go on a journey through NASCAR and IndyCar and let you know who my favorite drivers are from week to week and over the years.

We’ve had the website up and running since May and we’ve never really told you who we pull for from week to week (although judging by our tweets you can probably take a pretty good guess of who we do and don’t like) so today is a perfect opportunity to show you and bring you into my demented world for a day.

Join me, won’t you?  The drivers you see on my list might surprise you.

Motormouth Monday: Boris Said threatens Greg Biffle, makes it personal for this adoring fan

It's okay, Greg. Don't fret. I got your back on this one, baby. Just let me do the talking and I'll take care of King Boris. (photo credit: www.zimbio.com)

I was sweating today’s Motormouth column because we had a rain-out on Sunday for the Watkins Glen showdown in the Sprint Cup Series.

I was in a semi-chaotic panic because I couldn’t watch the race physically so I had to resort to Twitter (thank you to all my millions I follow for keeping me updated) and FoxSports RaceTrax which surprisingly didn’t screw up this time around, keeping me updated for all 93 laps of today’s race.

How could I possibly know what went on when I didn’t hear anything or see anything today?

And then it happened:  Boris Said opened his wide, road-course ringing raging, brainless mouth and threatened (yes, physically threatened) my Greg Biffle after today’s race.

Big mistake, buddy. You just made it personal.

So I’m going to go down my list of reasons and pick a bone with Boris Said to tell readers why he has NO PLACE in NASCAR.  Don’t like the idea, then I wouldn’t suggest reading any further.  Whimps.

Who’s Gettin’ Lucky in Kentucky: Quaker State 400 Preview

So who's getting lucky this weekend? I can tell you it's not me. (photo courtesy of www.virtualtourist.com)

The best, darn chicken I’ve ever ate in my life and mint juleps.  Ahhhhh, Kentucky.  Right up until a year or so ago I would have never thought Sprint Cup racing at Kentucky Speedway.

The Nationwide and Camping World Truck series already race here.  Perhaps regular Sprint Cup drivers will be at a disadvantage in the main event. Oh my how the tables just might be turned.  Let’s find out if and how they might work in favor of those you might not normally see on any given weekend in the starting grid or victory lane.

So the final question is:  who’s getting lucky in Kentucky this weekend?

Fun Fact: The last time NASCAR even saw an inaugural race was at Chicagoland Speedway on July 15, 2001 watched by 21 million viewers.  So as you can imagine, Kentucky and its race fans are excited.
