“Everybody up there was a friend of Dan’s…”

Dario won one for Danny Boy today on a blistering Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis, Indiana.

It’s the coolest place to race four wheels on Earth and it’s the most respected.

Today IMS was the hottest and it’s where history was made not once but twice on this very hot day in Indianapolis.

Did I mention a last lap wreck?

Oh yes, today’s race had it all:  heat, tons of lead changes, tradition seething in the air, memories and most important a champion  joining the ranks of legends at Indianapolis.

Garage Gossip: Snails With Magical Powers Anybody?

IndyCar and TMS's Eddie Gossage are at it again but the drivers have put the drama to rest this week...hopefully.

Good morning, race fans.  It’s a b-e-a-utiful Tuesday morning and it’s time for some news.

There’s not much in the way of “new stuff” this week in NASCAR and IndyCar but a couple of updates and follow-ups on stories we’ve already reported about.

We’ll talk about the EFI system that seems to be plaguing NASCAR as of late, the announcement of a new DreamWorks film that revolves around the Indianapolis 500 (staring my man-crush Ryan Reynolds by the way) and of course the ongoing drama between IndyCar drivers and Texas Motor Speedway.

So let’s dive in that way everybody can spend more time outside in the gorgeous weather today.  Oh yeah, nevermind I have a day job.  Everybody else have fun outdoors while I wallow in jealousy and sorrow.

Sprint Cup: Chip Gets A Firm Grip On Pathetic

These two dudes may be all smiles but their boss Chip sure isn't happy. (photo credit: SPEED TV)

Lipstick and Lugnuts found another blunt and less than satisfied personality in racing yesterday and his name is Chip Ganassi.

Gosh, did he make me laugh. It was at the expense of his 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup campaign which…ummm…really sort of sucked all season from start to finish.

However, when Chip Ganassi opens his mouth people listen.

Let’s just say he wasn’t too happy with his NASCAR Sprint Cup series finishes of 21st and 27th in the points.

Weekend Hot Pass: October 14-16, 2011

NASCAR Nationwide Series- Dollar General 300 Miles of Courage

-

Charlotte Motor Speedway- Friday, October 14th at 7:30pm ET on ESPN2

Ok, Nationwide drivers, we need to have a little talk.

I understand that it is difficult to beat Brad Keselowski, Carl Edwards, and Kyle Busch week after week.  But, there are 40 of you to three of them.  I guess to be more accurate, there are 36 of you when you take away Kasey Kahne, Paul Menard, Brian Vickers, and Joey Logano.

Take back your series!

There, I said it.

There are only four races left to the Nationwide Series season, and I’d love nothing more than to see actual NNS drivers win them all.  Elliot Sadler needs to make a move quickly if he wants to have a chance to take this championship away from Ricky Stenhouse, Jr.  Both drivers are in top notch equipment, more than capable of winning week after week.  The key to Stenhouse leading this championship is his two wins to ESad’s none.

While I’d love for a NNS driver to take this race, I feel like we will be seeing another round of the Keselowski burnout.  Charlotte is a track that plays right into Keselowski’s strengths: speed and, you guessed it, fuel mileage.

I really do hope that an NNS driver can step up and prove me wrong this weekend.  Please?

Race Fans, I have tears streaming down my face.  Lots and lots of tears.  Yes, I already knew the results of this race, but it didn’t stop me from feeling all the emotions that racing has to offer when watching it.  So, excuse me for just a moment while I lose my head and just be a fan.

OMG!  ED CARPENTER WON HIS FIRST RACE BY 0.0098 SECONDS OVER DARIO FRANCHITTI!  SARAH FISHER RACING TO VICTORY LANE FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!!

IZOD IndyCar Series- How An Earthquake Could Determine a Champion

Will Power is on an amazing hot streak in the last 3 races.

There was a time earlier in the season where I felt that no one was going to come close to challenging Dario Franchitti for the championship.  Now, with only 3 races left to determine our champion, we’ve got ourselves a points battle.

Will Power was the winner of the inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix on Sunday.  This should surprise no one.  He was the class of the field all weekend, taking the pole, posting the fastest lap, leading the most laps, and taking the checkers.  Power couldn’t have asked for a better weekend, unless it involves him hoisting the championship trophy.

After this weekend, it seems that Will Power may just get that chance.

This Will Probably NOT Come As A Shock…

Nothing but drama this week....

It’s not like we didn’t see this coming a mile away.  After the rain and race control shortened finish at the MoveThatBlock.com 225 this weekend, there are a few race teams that are protesting the results.

A hearing will be held August 22nd in Indianapolis based on the protests from Newman/Haas Racing and Chip Ganassi Racing.   Those teams are protesting the decision from Brian Barnhart to end the race after the red flag with 5 laps still to go.  The Indy Racing president of competition chose to end the race rather than wait to see if the race would be able to run after a track drying effort.  Barnhart ended the race after his monumentally bad decision to attempt a restart while the track was still too wet to race.  This wreck took out more than a few cars and caused the Angry Birds reaction from Will Power.

A driver flipping off race officials, a dead Port-a-Potty and an upside down IndyCar walk onto a track…

Ryan Hunter-Reay (center) was the winner of today's IZOD IndyCar race but he wasn't the hero of the day. Find out who was below. (photo credit: Nick Laham)

Believe me, this “race” was no joke today.  But if it were, wouldn’t that be the best lead up to the punchline ever?  By all means, today was not normal nor should it be a day IndyCar officials are proud of either.  IndyCar dropped a big, stinky crap bomb today at New Hampshire.

Let’s name off today’s list of winners, shall we?  Okay, go.  1) Ryan Hunter-Reay: today’s actual race winner and sadly will probably be forgotten a midst all today’s chaos 2) Mother Nature: she wreaked havoc on BOTH the NASCAR and IndyCar races today and I can honestly say she was a true bitch for doing so and 3) Will Power: today’s hero of which I will explain why and how in the latter portion of our broadcast.

So let’s dive in and get this mess of a race sorted out.  It’s going to require numbers and lists so my thoughts and what’s left of my brain remains in tact.  Yes, today was that epic.

Pay attention students because there will be one quiz question at the end of today’s lesson: WWWD?

IZOD IndyCar Series: Honda Indy ZzzZZZzzZZ

Scott Dixon was the class of the field at the Honda Indy 200 in Mid-Ohio.

I truly drew the short straw this weekend.  Not only did I miss every race due to work, but the races I chose to cover were mind-numbing, follow the leader nap fodder.  The only bonus to not seeing these live is the ability to fast forward through the commercials.  Yay, I guess.

But, you know me,  I ALWAYS find something to rant about.
