Racing Review 2011: Let’s Jive And Remember Five

Time for Erin and I to kiss another year good-bye from the Chi.

So can you believe it’s been over six months since Erin and I went public here at AerysSports?  Yeah, it’s been awhile but at the same time we’ve been through so much in a little less than a year.

Just exactly how much have we been through?  We’ve witnessed incredible victories this season in NASCAR and IndyCar but we’ve also witnessed one of the blackest days in racing as well when we lost Dan Wheldon in October.

Today, I’m focusing on the good times we had this year in NASCAR and IndyCar.  I’ve picked my five favorites and I’m counting them down right now.

Let’s reminsce and try not to bawl our eyes out, shall we?  Suck it up and put your big girl and boy pants on.

Oh, Kasey Kahne, This Just Wasn’t Your Breast Day Ever

Face it, Ladies, you just cannot stay mad at that face....

Never did I ever think that I would be writing an article about Kasey Kahne causing such a massive controversy on Twitter.  Never.  He’s just about as vanilla as they come.  He’s a sponsor’s dream and the “bring him home to mom” kind of guy.

However, Kasey managed to enrage many on Twitter when he tweeted his shock about a mom breastfeeding in a supermarket.   He added fuel to the fire when he took offense to a name calling reply and swore back.  I don’t think a pack of women have brought out the claws faster.

Go read the Huffington Post story complete with screenshots here.  Go ahead.  I’ll wait.

Done?  Good.  Here we go.  Rant engaged.

Wanna Get Away? Head To Charlotte For 2012 NASCAR Preview

I know it's not palm trees and margaritas, but now is the perfect time to book a vacay to meet your favorite driver at the NHOF!

In recent years, I’ve never been one to brag about the great things of Charlotte, NC mainly because I have quite an unpleasant history there but today I’ll make an exception to the rule and let our readers in on a little secret that’s been revealed courtesy of Bob Pockrass at SceneDaily.com as of this morning.

It’s regarding the NASCAR Preview 2012 that’s slated to take place on January 21, 2012 at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Yes, home to my Carolina Panthers that I dearly love even though they suck.

The entire weekend is jam-packed with events including the unveiling of the Hall of Fame inductees on January 22, 2012.

Why should race fans care?  Ever want to meet your favorite driver but never had the opportunity?  Well right here, right now is the perfect opportunity so you can’t say we didn’t provide the chance.

If you have the time off and the funds available to do so, I’d highly suggest looking into this fantastic opportunity.

Happy Birthday To Chicago Blackhawk, Patrick Sharp! Why? Because We Can.

Happy Birthday, Sharpie you delicious hunk! Oh yeah, see the Stanley Cup? Okay, just checking. (photo credit: Flickr)

Today we celebrate the next best thing to baby Jesus being born on Christmas.  Yes, people (mainly women) flock from afar just to catch a glimpse his magnificance on any given night at the United Center.

I’m talking about Patrick Sharp, people.  Behold his glory…and the Stanley Cup.  Patrick Sharp was born on December 27, 1981 and turns the dirty thirty today!

But Morgann, Patrick Sharp has NOTHING to do with racing.  Why are you celebrating his birthday here at Lipstick & Lugnuts?

Well, because Erin and I are Chicago Blackhawks fanatics and if you look at him the answer should be quite obvious as to why we posted his picture up here on his birthday.

Plus, it gives us an awesome excuse to tell all of our NASCAR and IndyCar readers to check out Runs on Duncan here at our AerysSports network.  You think Erin and I are sarcastic, awesome and snarky?  You haven’t seen anything like ROD.  Seriously, check them out.

NASCAR Post-Christmas Hangover: Aric Almirola To RPM?

Good morning, ladies. I'm Aric. Glad to know I could make your Tuesday a little better. (photo credit: www.boston.com)

Good morning!  Tons of rumors have been flying around about who is going to join RPM before Speedweeks start in February.

I’m recovered from Christmas and ready to go with a serious NASCAR rumor floating around out there this morning courtesy of Lana Bandoim who is a contributor via the Yahoo! Contributor Network.

Most of the big names have been signed with maybe the exception of David Ragan but this morning we’re throwing another log onto the fire and another name into the hat.

The driver?  Aric Almirola.  Who?  The dude that finished fourth in this year’s Nationwide series standings.  He’s already set to take on a full-time ride in 2012 with JR Motorsports but perhaps that might change in the not-so-distant future.

Plus Aric is a little bit cute so I had to make an excuse to put up his picture for all of you to feast your peepers on.  Do I need another reason other than that?  Didn’t think so.

RPM has already said they’re going to field two cars in 2012.  That’s great but who are the drivers?  RPM has remained mum all this time and continues to do so and it’s driving the NASCAR family crazy, well at least me.

So that’s the latest on the silly season I have for you.  If anything changes, please know we’ll bring the latest gossip, rumors and announcements right away.

Peace Out On Earth And Merrius Festivus

Merry Christmas from Erin and I and from everybody here at the AerysSports network. (photo credit: www.pedalcarplus.com)

Erin and I would love to take an opportunity to wish all of our readers a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

May your weekend be bright, festive and cheery.  Don’t get caught speeding to your destination because our bail money funds have been completely exhausted.  We spent them all on the non-sucky Christmas gifts we told you about!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, everybody.  Peace out and merrius festivus.

Dear IndyCar: Please Suck It. Sincerely, A Disgusted Chicagoland Fan

IndyCar announced the 2012 schedule and left Chicagoland (again) and Milwaukee out of the mix. I think they need motivation to add Chicagoland back.

With all the Christmas happenings this week it’s pretty hard to be in a grumpy, poopy, un-Christmasy spirit.

Well, it’s easy for me this week because IndyCar released their 2012 schedule and unless you live in say Iowa (where nothing happens) or Detroit (do I even need to say anything?), you won’t be seeing any IndyCar races in person this upcoming season.

But Morgann, why is this so?  Because IndyCar decided to scratch Milwaukee and more personally Chicagoland Speedway from the 2012 schedule.  It’s true and I’m pissed off.

You Say It’s Your Birthday: Happy Birthday, Greg Biffle!

Like I said, humongo fan of the baby blue bedroom eyes. Behold the Biff. (photo credit: Motor Racing Network)

It’s Friday, almost Christmas time and today we celebrate the birthday of one of my all-time favorite drivers, Greg Biffle!

The Biff was born back on this day in 1969 which means he turns forty-two today!  I’m not making apologies for him because I think he looks amazing and always will!

But Morgann what is this crazy, semi-delusional infatuation you have with Greg Biffle?  Have you ever seen the man in person?  Let’s just say I’m a huge fan of bedroomy blue eyes.  Ahem.

Greg drives for Roush-Fenway Racing and pilots the No. 16 3M Ford Fusion in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup series.

The Biff finished fourteenth in this year’s Sprint Cup standings with eight top tens, two top fives and one pole award.

Greg had a pretty great 2011 as he welcomed his brand new baby girl, Emma Elizabeth into the world on July 6th so let’s hope 2012 can be even better yet!  Happy Birthday, Greg!

Sprint Cup: Kurt Busch To Phoenix Racing? Umm, Congrats?

Pick a word, any word. These are my thoughts regarding Kurt Busch's apparent new ride.

I guess congrats are in order for somebody being dumb enough to give Kurt Busch a ride for the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup season today.

Nothing has been confirmed on paper but rumor has it there was a handshake involved.

Raise your hand if you saw this move coming.  I didn’t at all, at least not this soon and definitely not to this organization.

The lucky recipient of the short-tempered, potty-mouthed driver is Phoenix Racing.  Sound familiar?  Should because this is Landon Cassill’s old ride in the No. 51 Chevrolet.

Crew chief and team will remain the same with Nick Harrison at the helm for the No. 51 in 2012 as well.

Funny story is Phoenix Racing has a direct alignment and agreement with Hendrick Motorsports which is where little brother Kyle hailed from until he signed with JGR what seems like a million years ago.

So, let’s throw the “homeless” drivers out there for 2012:  David Ragan, David Reutimann, Brian Vickers and Landon Cassill.  The list is long but distinguished (yes, totally ripped a Top Gun line) but the list of available rides is growing shorter what seems by the minute.

Hell Yeah! I’m Down With The Dinger!

For the most part, the announcement of A.J. Allmendinger to the Penske 22 ride was received with a positive response from NASCAR fans.  The Dinger is a great guy, funny as can be, and very deserving of a shot in better equipment than he had at Red Bull Racing and Richard Petty Motorsports.

Unfortunately, I did catch some grumbling from the Twitterverse.  These must be David Ragan fans, since most fully expected him to be the recipient of this ride.  But, that was before we knew that RPM was considering Kurt Busch for what was Allmendinger’s 43 ride.

Still with me?  This is seriously the best silly season EVER!
