Mike Davis named Doak Walker Award semifinalist

9451636Congratulations to Mike Davis, who was selected as one of the 10 semifinalists for the Doak Walker Award, which is given annually to the best running back in the country.

Davis has had a stellar season for the Gamecocks so far. He’s tallied 10 touchdowns, which gives him the team lead, and has amassed 1,058 rushing yards through nine games. He is only the 8th USC player to break the 1,000-yard mark in a season and has run for 100 or more yards in seven of nine games this year. Davis also leads the SEC and ranks 11th in the country in rushing with 117.6 yards per game and is second in the SEC and 14th in the nation in all-purpose yards at 153.8 yards per game.

The complete list of semifinalists can be found here. Three finalists for the award will be revealed on November 25th, and the winner will be announced on December 12th at the Home Depot College Football Awards, which will be televised on ESPN.

Davis joins Jadeveon Clowney and Connor Shaw as Gamecocks nominated for national honors. Clowney was selected as one of 12 semifinalists for the Rotary Lombardi Award, which is given annually to the best lineman/linebacker in the country. He was a finalist for the award last year. Shaw was chosen as one of 16 semifinalists for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award, given annually to the best QB in the country. The complete list of semifinalists can be found here, and fans can vote on this award by going to voteobrien.org, and can vote daily until November 24th. The winner will be announced at the Home Depot College Football Awards. Shaw was also named as one of 10 finalists for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, given to the best senior/fourth-year quarterback in the country.
