After seven appearances for Seattle, 22-year-old Erasmo Ramirez has been optioned to Tacoma.
From Geoff Baker:
Shawn Kelley up from AAA, Erasmo Ramirez down. Kelley says he feels better than at any time since b4 his 2010 surgery.
Ramirez pitched 11.0 innings of relief in 2012, with a 4.88 FIP and 1.25 K/BB. He gave up 3 hits, 4 walks, and a home run to Josh Hamilton during the Mariners-Rangers series last month.
Shawn Kelley has 9 appearances for the Tacoma Rainiers, following his start in Japan against the A’s. He put up a 1.43 FIP and 4.75 K/BB in 14.2 innings and 4 starts.
Update: Via Baker, Ramirez is being primed as a potential starter.
Erasmo Ramirez will be stretched out as a starter in AAA. Mariners want him available to spot start if needed and to get more action.
