We’re kind of in a holding pattern with Joe Girardi at this point. The Yankees have made him an offer, and we’re probably only a day or so away from finding out if he accepts or rejects it. It’s the moment of truth for Cubs fans, because we’ll find out if he wants to talk to the Cubs badly enough that he’s willing to reject the Yankee’s offer or risk them pulling it altogether.
Because we went almost TWELVE HOURS without any Girardi news, the Chicago Cubs reporters (both mainstream media and bloggers) filled the void by tossing out even more names of people who area “rumored” to be interested in managing the Cubs. For your Saturday morning entertainment, here is that list (from most believable to least believable):
Sandy Alomar Jr
Ryne Sandberg (not gonna happen)
(and then it just goes to hell from there)
Cal Ripken Jr.
Dusty Baker (what even?)
And, mind you, these are names people threw out with at least SOME BELIEF that these names were at least a remote possibility. My favorite of the morning was Mike AND Greg Maddux: Mike as manager, Greg as pitching coach.
Time was actually much better spent playing last night’s Twitter meme, #AddaWordRuinaMovie. Here are some of the winners there:
Three Men and a Dead Baby (Ricky Gervais)
Up Yours (Matt Rittle)
Madea’s Ghostbusters (Mauricio Rubio)
Meet Joe He’s Black
Ferris Bueller’s Day Jerking Off
I highly recommend clicking on the hashtag and reading through. You’ll wind up smarter than if you read all the Cubs manager crap that’s out there.
For those of you who listen to thinks while you work, I’ll be joining Harry Teinowitz Monday morning right after Johnny B on WGN.fm. We’ll talk Bears, Wildcats, Cubs, and whatever else we can come up with. Hope you can tune in!
