LA v. Seattle; Talk about a drama filled soccer fest!

Many people were looking forward to this match-up between the two powerhouse West Coast teams. Not only do these two teams have a rocky history, but this season people were looking forward to the meeting of Donovan and Dempsey. Unfortunately those people are going to have to wait a little while longer because Dempsey was ruled out of play with an injury he sustained earlier this week in practice and Donovan was ruled out because of an ankle injury. LA was also without AJ DeLaGarza who sustained a dislocated elbow and is out for 4 to 6 weeks. Other than the notable absences, it was a game full of drama and awesome tifos like LA Riot Squad’s which said “The greatest American soccer player doesn’t wear green”. So yeah, last night’s game was a drama filled awesome soccer fest.

BUvdVqcCUAAk8cnSeattle has always had a tough time of scoring at the StubHub Center, but last night they made it look easy. In the 25th minute an unmarked Eddie Johnson ended Seattle’s shutout streak in LA. Gonzalez was marking EJ but was clearly fouled at the top of the box by a Seattle player thus EJ got an open ball and scored. The match started to get heated around the 30th minute and never let up. As the first half was winding down LA got a dangerous free kick at the top of the 18 and Juninho drilled it in the back of the net. It was a free kick LA fans have been waiting for since Beckham left, and it was glorious. Juni’s free kick took the game into the half with both teams level 1-1.

Ba-da-Bing what a second half! Things started off with just the right amount of drama, but in the 75th minute things picked up to the drama level of Miley Cyrus and her twerking. Zardes and Villarreal had a couple of great chances that had me up out of my seat. Robbie Keane got into a scuffle with the Seattle defender and made his usual hand gestures that loosely translated to “I’m awesome, you’re not. Stop pushing me around even though I probably pushed you first” at least that’s what it looked like to me.

In the 90th minute things went from bad to worse for Seattle. Zack Scott took down Courtious right outside the box and was awarded his second yellow of the night and was sent off. Seattle had to finish off the game with ten men and LA was going to make sure they made the most of it. In the final seconds of stoppage time LA had a brilliant sequence that almost put them on top. I mean this was some “I think I stopped breathing-how the heck did that not go in-what just happened-ahhhhh” type mess. Seriously. My twitter timeline was exploding and so was my head. Alas, LA and Seattle settled for the draw and both teams went away with one point.

LA’s next game will be Sunday the 29th versus Portland!
