LA Galaxy dominate Chivas USA

Do we even call this match up the SuperClasico anymore? Seems as though there’s not a real competition going on… Anyways, it’s getting down to the wire for LA Galaxy and their playoff run. LA knows they are going to have to play tough from here on out, and that is exactly what they did today. Juninho was out of the 18 due to a left abductor strain and Bruce Arena was not in attendance since he was suspended for the dumbest thing ever. All in all, the absences didn’t hinder LA’s play and LA earned three vital points to keep pushing for their third MLS cup.

LA got on the board early in the first half as Robbie Keane found the back of the net in the 6th minute. It was a makeup shot for the wide open net he missed in the second minute of the half. Chivas’ defense started falling apart little by little and Keane and Zardes were breaking them down on the right side. They finally broke down in the 23rd minute as Zardes got a clear pass to Donovan who found the back of the net and put up LA 2-0. Zardes notched his second assist of the night and LA were going to town on the goats.

Three minutes later Zardes got what he was looking for and put LA up 3-0 and thus started the “let’s just have fun since we’re ahead by 3 goals” mentality. Robbie Keane was the first one to start it by taking a shot from the midfield line THAT ALMOST WENT IN, it was only a foot over the top of the net! Donovan decided to end the half on a high note as he netted the fourth goal of the half and his second of the night in the 41st minute. With this goal Donovan tied Cunningham for the all-time MLS goals scored, and is well on his way to breaking the record.

The second half Chivas picked up their pace, but not enough to counter the damage that was already done. LA just had the joy of passing the ball around and around while running all over the place. You could tell they weren’t looking to score, but that didn’t stop them from taking shots. Chivas finally got a shot on goal in the 82nd minute and their fans erupted with cheers. It was actually pretty cute, and even cuter since it was Bocanegra who took the shot. Keane was one of the only LA players who wasn’t letting up on the gas, in the final minute he notched his second of the night and LA went on to win 5-0. It was the cherry on top of the sundae as LA earned three points and kept their playoff hopes alive.
