LA Galaxy Close Out Regular Season With A Win

Tonight was one of those nights where you could feel the calm before the storm. The last MLS Regular season game between LA Galaxy and Seattle Sounders. LA Galaxy brought out the big guns for this one.

Landon Donovan and David Beckham both came back from injuries and were in the starting lineup. Along with Wilhemsson and Keane, tonight’s lineup was one every LA Galaxy fan had been waiting for. Knowing that LA has to play the knock out game Thursday tonight’s game was all about easing off the gas and giving the fans a good game.

The Home Depot Center sold out to a crowd of 27,000; making this LA’s sixth sellout of the season. Needless to say, the fans were ready for some action.

Things started off a tad bit awkward for Josh Saunders. He made two “Rookie” mistakes within minutes of each other that could have cost LA to give up a goal. Having Beckham and Donovan back made a big difference in the attacking half for LA, the passes were crisp and of course, Beckham’s crosses were flawless. Dangerous, was a word used a lot by Taylor Twellman describing Donovan and Beckham’s passes to each other. (I realize that I just mentioned Becks’ name 4 times, but hey… I’ve missed his crosses like a fat kid on a diet misses cookies.) Speaking of crosses, Seattle almost put themselves on the board in the 31st minute, but thanks to the goal post the score remained 0-0. The first half was like a ping pong match, both teams were evenly matched going at each other and taking shots. Even though both teams had some awesome shots the first half sadly ended 0-0.

Coming into the second half, things were still evenly matched. Robbie Keane had two incredible shots, and both somehow hit the crossbar. David Beckham put in a good 60 minutes before being subbed off. (Incredibly, and somewhat shocking, Landon Donovan put in a full 90 minutes after coming back form injury.) In the 83rd minute of play, after coming off the bench, Mike Magee helped LA take the lead. Curling a shot into the low post to make the score 1-0. After 93 minutes of play and the final whistle blew, LA Galaxy came away with the win.

LA Galaxy are now headed to the playoffs! Their first game is against Vancouver Whitecaps on Thursday in the Knockout Round of the 2012 MLS Playoffs.
