Jack Campbell: Future of the Dallas Stars

Much ado has been made about Dallas Stars’ prospect Jack Campbell. When he arrived with the Texas Stars after his OHL season had ended, there were many who waited in anticipation for his arrival. The fans were not naive enough to think that Campbell would save the lackluster season. It was simply a glimmer of hope for the future of the Stars organization.

While Campbell’s record isn’t exactly mind-blowing, no one can deny his athleticism and desire to win. He posted a 4-7-0 record and had one shutout. Not mind-blowing but given the fact that goaltenders develop slower than skaters, not a bad professional start. He has the mentality and heart to win. After every loss, Campbell always had the right sportsmanlike attitude. He said he didn’t like to lose. Well, welcome to the Stars organization Jack. We don’t like to lose either.

Chosen in the first round by the Dallas Stars in the 2010 NHL draft, GM Joe Nieuwendyk knew that they could not let this diamond in the rough go to another team. Campbell has been frank of his desire to play in the NHL. In 2009, he said that he wanted to be playing in the NHL in the next year or two. Jack may not be there yet, but he is certainly on his way.
