Keane’s hat trick helps LA beat RSL

This week has been a busy one for LA Galaxy with the signing of the third DP and the rumors swirling about Landon Donovan. All of that aside, last night’s game was a big one for LA as they took on one of their West Coast rivals, Real Salt Lake. Whenever these two teams meet it is nothing short of epic. There’s drama ever since the 2009 MLS Cup where RSL beat LA. What I’m saying is that if you ever miss one of these, you miss a great game.

LA held most of the possession in the first half and had the majority of shots on goal. Even with the majority of shots LA couldn’t finish any of them. It was a back and forth 45 with both teams going at the other with all they had. It was interesting, but the first half still ended 0-0. For as much that was lacking in the first half, the second half totally made up for it.

Second half started off with a bang by both teams. In the 53rd minute Joao Plata put the visitors up 1-0, less than three minutes later Robbie Keane leveled the game 1-1. It was a typical Keane goal going one on one with the defender and basically showing why he’s a freaking genius with the ball. LA didn’t stop there though, the game blew up after that and Donovan almost had a goal in the 57th minute but RSL’s Wingert saved the ball off the goal line WITH HIS CHEST. Yeah, it was some ninja like mess in the span of 30 seconds.

Juninho had a power shot from outside the 18 that Rimando had to make some kind of diving save to stop. As you thought things would start winding down Robbie Keane put on a show and put another ball in the back of the net to make the score 2-1. Did I mention that I made Keane my Fantasy captain today? BEST DECISION EVER. From that point it was LA’s world and RSL was just living in it. In the 75th minute the big man himself, the new DP Omar Gonzalez showed his power and scored a goal off a corner. It was brilliant and after the fact he trashed talked the guy who was all over his back.

LA didn’t pump the brakes after going up by two goals, in fact they pushed forward and wouldn’t you know that Keane beat the RSL defense again and scored a hat trick to put LA up 4-1. It was kind of ridiculously awesome after that with Dunivant almost getting a goal and Juninho also coming close. Stoppage time rolled around and as the final whistle blew RSL scored, but seriously the referee gave them five minutes stoppage when there was only supposed to be three. I’m not even going to worry about the last goal because psshhh, the boys killed it in the second half!!

With the win LA goes into third place and are only 4 points away from first place! LA’s next game is the 24th versus Vancouver.
