There are still over 60 days until training camp starts but the Flyers had themselves a busy week. Here is a roundup of what you may have missed if you were sitting on the beach:

  • The Flyers held their rookie/prospect camp last week which gave coaches and fans a chance to get a look at all seven players that were drafted this summer. There were forty-three players in all, including Braydon Coburn’s brother, Greg, and James van Riemsdyk’s brother, Trevor. Camp ended over the weekend with back-to-back scrimmages.
  • The most exciting part of rookie camp for the fans and the players is the annual Trial on the Isle. It gives them the opportunity to get out of the rink for a day and head down to the Jersey Shore. This year’s event was different than years past. The Flyers’ new director of player development, Ian Laperriere, wanted to make it more about team-building than competition. The prospects took part in activities such as sprints while carrying a teammate and walking arm-in-arm into the water.
  • The Flyers released their schedule for the 2012 preseason. They open up training camp with on-ice workouts on Saturday, September 22 and play their first game against the Chicago Blackhawks on September 25 at the Wells Fargo Center. There are seven preseason games in all, three on home ice and a fourth as the home team at John Labatt Centre in London, Ontario. The New York Rangers (Sept. 29) and the New Jersey Devils (Oct. 1) also play in Philly.
