League Cancels Games Through 11/1

Don’t worry George, we’re still trying to get Ovechkin to come back to the States. (Photo: M Richter/flickr)

The league announced today that games have been cancelled through November 1st.

Today’s news is actually good news. Why? Well there obviously won’t be games next weekend so they had to do something. The deadline they had given the players with their latest proposal in hopes of having an 82-game season is next Thursday. By cancelling only to the date that season would begin (November 2nd), they are saying there is still hope they can come to an agreement. If the league had no intention of talking with the players again, they would’ve cancelled a bunch more.

Do I think this is the last cancellation we see? No, unfortunately I don’t. But I’m glad there is still hope, however slight it may be, that the two sides will work this out. Had the league cancelled a month as many originally thought they would, we could’ve kissed this season goodbye.
