Friday Fisticuffs: Brian Boyle vs. Walker & Konopka

The off season will steer Friday Fisticuffs in a different direction. Since there are no games being played, there are obviously no new fights. We’ll take this opportunity to hit the vaults and see some of our favorites from years past.

As we know, there is an increase chance of seeing a dust up when the scoreboard is tilted heavily in one team’s favor. A player on the losing side will often drop the gloves in an effort to get his team going.

That’s kind of what happened on November 27th 2009 as the Tampa Bay Lightning hosted the New York Rangers. But it didn’t exactly end up how Brian Boyle may have wanted.

The score was 4-0, Lightning. Matt Walker takes Boyle into the boards behind the net and well, this happened.

But it didn’t end there.

In the third period, Boyle took James Wright into the boards on a questionable hit. Then Lightning pugilist Zenon Konopka took exception and if Boyle thought Walker was a tough customer, then Big Z was another revelation.

Man, sometimes I really miss Zenon Konopka. Well, this week we saw some Lightning fights. What are some of yours? Share them in the comments and you may see them featured over the summer.
