Dear NHL, Give Us Hamm

Jay Mohr Who?

The NHL awards ceremony is always an interesting affair. There’s a rag tag group of “celebrities”, hockey legends, and players who are often still bruised from the post season. The 2011 awards were no exception. Jay Mohr hosted the show for the second consecutive year and was not funny for the second time in a row.  Add in some Housewives who mispronounced Marty St. Louis’ name and there were quite a few groan worthy moments.

There was one extremely bright spot, however. It turns out that Don effing Draper is a hockey fan. His 2 minutes at the podium presenting the Vezina trophy was better than Mohr was all night. See for yourselves.

Forget the fact that he’s really ridiculously good looking. Jon Hamm is what this ceremony needs: a fan of the sport. He knows what he’s talking about. He may have even been able to save the show the year Chaka Khan was the musical performer.

Make it happen, National Hockey League. Hamm to host in 2012. This may as well be his campaign video:

The room may collapse in on itself under the pressure of his handsome being in such close proximity to Henrik Lundqvist’s, but that’s a risk we’re all willing to take.
