Huskers will honor UCLA’s Pasquale in Saturday’s game

In a week where the world of college football has been filled with scandal, cynicism, rumors, and, if you watched last night’s Texas Tech/TCU game, some really bad football, here’s a nice story to wrap up your week.

The first part of the story is unspeakably sad: 20-year-old UCLA wide receiver Nick Pasquale was killed when he was hit by a car this past Sunday. The Bruins, of course, will honor their fallen teammate and friend for the rest of the season. This weekend, they’ll take on Nebraska in a Top 25 match-up and rematch between last year’s Rose Bowl teams.

Here comes the uplifting part: the Huskers announced that they too will honor Pasquale on Saturday, wearing No. 36 decals on their helmets. Said coach Bo Pelini, “This is bigger than any football game.”

This example of true sportsmanship and respect is a good reminder that no matter how hard guys may compete on the field, there are certain things that bring everyone together off of it.

No. 16 UCLA and No. 23 Nebraska will kick off at noon Eastern on Saturday.
