Last night, the Phillies swept the Nationals by beating them 7-3. Â And improved to 21-9 on the season.
One can only imagine what it must be like to face a pitcher like Roy Halladay. Â Other than the Milwaukee Brewers game where Doc had a rough outing, he has more than justified why he was chosen as the 2010 NL Cy Young winner. Â I for one have no worries when he’s on the mound. Â Last night, he only allowed six hits, two runs and struck out 10 in seven innings.
Halladay is now 5-1 with a 2.19 ERA.
Raul Ibanez aka Nats killer, not only climbed out of that deep slump he was stuck in, he’s got a 3-game hitting streak going. Â After a double, he slammed his second home run in the series. Â Maybe Raul should pretend the Atlanta Braves are really Nationals in disguise, he’d be guaranteed to hit. Â Because in the Nats series, he went 8 for 11 with three doubles, two homers and five RBI’s. Â Welcome back Rauuuuuuul!
Washington’s reliever Todd Coffey suffered a nose blood during last night’s game. Â He was alright but as a mother of a child who gets them quite often, they certainly aren’t fun. Â Have to give him mad props for staying out there and just pitching through it!
The Fightins’ Friday News
Roy Oswalt arrived back in Philadelphia and threw a bullpen session on Thursday.  He told the media that baseball is a gift but comes third and fourth on his list, that family comes first.  Thankfully, his family and home were spared by the tornadoes that ravaged near his hometown last week.
Oswalt threw a bullpen session Thursday. It is the first time he picked up a baseball since his last start. He was rusty as expected, but he said it went well. There’s a decent chance he will start Saturday against the Braves at Citizens Bank Park, although Phillies pitching coach Rich Dubee said no decision has been made. – MLB writer Todd Zolecki  Phillies.com
There’s a good possibility that by the end of this weekend, Chase Utley might be headed to Clearwater, Florida to start a rehab assignment.
It seems more and more likely that Utley, who is on the disabled list with tendinitis in his right knee, will be back in the Phils’ lineup before the end of the month, barring any setbacks.
Joe Blanton is slated to come off the DL on Monday, May 9, 2011.
